VAN
  1. Stillman, Chase
  2. 2022 1st round pick (NJD)

Niemela is arguably our best prospect, currently.

It is definitely a no.

Yeah, I know...had seen him in past Leaf/Subban offers, but with the season he is having, it would be pipe dream from our end.
I just didn't know which "tbd prospect" to include.
...or from which team.

Feel free to make suggestions....from leafs or any team.

Subban's going to be a problem for the Leafs because of his cap hit. It would be very difficult to make that kind of room available, they'd have to pay a 2nd team to retain on him as well and at that point the cost really starts adding up for what they are getting.

Even of the leafs could afford the cap they wouldn't entertain subban for more than a 3rd and a significantly worse prospect

Leafs give up best defense prospect by a mile and get back a 4.5 million dollar, third pair defenseman on an expiring contract. Yeah, thats a call that doesnt even make it to Dubas

Devils can pay the third team if the prospect is worth it.

Subban

$9 million (full year AAV)
x .5 = $4.5 million (50% retention)
x .5 = $2.25 million (25% third team)
x .2 = $0.45 million (at deadline)

I've seen you mention at the deadline in a few threads but that's not true for the Leafs. They've been in LTIR all season, they aren't accruing cap space to lower the hit like that. They've got to make the full hit work.

Mike Koster plus 3rd was my original alternative to Niemela.

I've heard that Severson hasn't been as good this year, but I can't confirm that personally. But a deal around Boeser for Severson with an extension could work. I don't think just a pick and prospect would work unless the prospect is elite.

Niemela is having one of the best seasons by a u20 Euro D ever so... uh... no toronto don't trade him for a solid UFA D at a cap hit they still can't afford

😳

Niemela is on pace to break the Liiga u20 D scoring record by 20 points it's mind boggling what he's doing and also his possession numbers are good so, wow

Why is Corsi used so arbitrarily on this site

As if it doesn't factor into Tatar's worth?

Easily one of the best possession guys of his era

It's funny that even with his low sh% slump to start the season he's basically at 0.5 pts/g which alone would be ok for a 4.5M$ cap hit but...

Also his Corsi numbers are wizardly as ever

Which brings his value up easily to a 6M$ player

Anyhow it'd be really silly to sell low on him rn

This is real bad...

Subban trade makes zero sense for TOR

You aren't going to just trade Tatar after signing him....

Stop trying to make the Bastian thing a thing....Vesey has been solid. Why are we just trading Boqvist for a restart?

I have nothing against Tatar...actually like him, and think his style of play fits what we are building here.

Boqvist is blocked at Center here...and he is actually a liability when we put him as a forechecking/4th line winger.
Seattle desperately needs centers.
And Bastian has been good this year.

I hear you on the possession game. Its strong. But we have a ton of good possession forwards.
I believe, as a team, we are top-5 in NHL in our share of creating high-danger opportunities, but in middle of pack for actual goal-share.

And Tatar has yet to score with his stick on a goalie this year (one deflection, one empty netter).

Severson had one really bad game...a couple of urgh moments in other early games.
And there are a couple of Devils bloggers that have hated him for years.

But he had late start to season (was injured in camp). Has been his normal self lately.

I don't think any SANE Maple Leafs fan is actually thinking about Subban. Beyond the fact there is no cap room, even at 25%, it would not be a smart move. This is just a Devils fan trying to dump Subban when the Devils A) have no cap issues and B) have no one to honestly replace him right now. Reilly Walsh might be playing well in AHL, but that is hardly any kind of guarantee.

Huh? What?
A) Who said anything about Devils cap position?
B) Who said anything about Reilly Walsh?

Subban is a UFA at the end of the year and NJD is likely still assembling their team. So don't be surprised to see him in trade talks/buzz over the next few months. Some teams will be priced out, most will not. Some teams will not have the need, some will not. But there will be teams calling and its not unusual.

He hasn't been bad, but he isn't as good as last year. The main reason for that is the smaller role due to Dougie Hamilton joining the team.
Severson was lowered from the first pair to the second pair, taken off the PP and is only sometimes on the PK
His ice time has gone down by over a full minute
