Another way to improve at the tdl

Created by: ragger_lord
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 22, 2021
Published: Nov. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not an Oilers fan but I do watch some games.

IMO this is the year to go all in. All picks/prospects other than Bouch should be untouchable.

General idea is to get some solid goaltending while also improving the bottom 6 and defense.

The Pitt players provide more depth and allow you to roll a balanced lineup (show) or stack the top 6 and still have competent bottom 6 wingers

Maybe I'm over valuing Varly but he's signed through next season so not a pure rental.

He also backed NYI to the ECF is back to back years, I really think he would be a huge piece for Edmonton.

Broberg is Edmonton’s 2019 1st round(8th overall) pick, he’s supposed to be really good, he has great edges and skating. Played his first game and got his first point the other day. If Edmonton were to give up that ridiculous price. It would be for Gibson or someone of his value. I.E. Blackwood. Varly is good. But not that good.

i think a first would be enough to get it done, honestly.

No thanks. I wouldn’t do any of these trades except for maybe the Chiarot trade. Broberg is supposed to be a good defence man in the future, and did play good on his debut. Definitely wouldn’t trade him for a goalie in his 30s. A first for Aston-Reese, and Heinen is too much in my opinion. They are good depth guys, but you can get them for much cheeper. Koskinen has been a good goalie this year, so I don’t see us paying to get rid of him now. Also, it’s crazy, but he is playing better than Varlamov! Yes Varlamov has played way less games, but still. With the season he had last year, you would expect him to have better numbers. Also, I rather Ryan over Boyd. Yes Boyd has more points, but he is Arizona’s 2c, as Ryan is our 3c. Boyd is probably on their PP, and PK too.

      Koskinen: 11GP, 9W, 2L, 2.96GAA, .910SV%

      Broberg: NHL: 1GP, 1A, 1P, 0+/-. AHL: 13GP, 10A, 10P, +4+/-

      Varlamov: 4GP, 3L, 3.32GAA, .894SV%

      Heinen: 17GP, 5G, 3A, 8P, -2+/-

      Aston-Reese: 15GP, 5A, 5P, 3+/-

      Ryan vs Boyd,

      Ryan: 15GP, 1G, 1P, -10+/-

      Boyd: 12GP, 3G, 3A, 6P, +1+/-

Koskinen may be playing better now, but I have my doubts Koskinen and Smith is a goalie tandem that can lead you to a cup. Varly has proven he can bring a team deep in the playoffs. I wouldn't put too much stock in the 4 games he's played this season.

Boyd and Ryan was a swap purely because it was needed due to the cap (also lol Boyd is their 2C).

It's always hard to evaluate prices at the deadline re the Pitt guys. Imo both those guys provide more value than a Foligno or Savard and both went for firsts.

I disagree. Foligno, and Savard are worth more in my opinion. They were better at the time. I understand why you have your doubts about Koskinen, and Smith. We will see how they play for the reminder of the games before the deadline. Varlamov, I would like to see more of to see if he can bounce back, and play like he did in the past. I also wouldn’t give them Broberg for Varlamov. That wouldn’t work In my opinion. That makes sense if you needed the cap for the other trades, but I would rather Ryan. And yes, Boyd has been Arizona’s 2c.

I understand your concern about varly and i know he wouldnt get the price i would hope for rn. That being said he was injured throughout training camp and the beginning of the season. Goalies need a little time to get in a rythm and varly hasnt had that. His team also hasnt helped him at all either bc it was the end of a month long road trip or bc it was an ahl caliber team. I wouldnt exoect you to want this deal rn but i would bet on him getting back to form with a few more starts and guys getting healthy.

Yes I can concerned about Varlamov. I would like to trade for him if he played like he did in the past. Of course not that big of a package, because that’s nuts, but I would entertain a trade at the deadline, if he plays better. We will see…
