Assuming it's to make the current team better but rather have Shakir than lapierre

Devs back? Sure but we're good now. We didn't have a STH's kid demand not to report and whine his way to NY

The Devils drafting has been good in recent years. And not just the lottery picks.

MacKenzie Blackwood in the 2nd round
        Jesper Bratt in 6th round
        Yegor Sharangovich in 5th round
        Akira Schmid in 5th round
        Arseni Gritsyuk in 5th round
        Nico Daws in 3rd round

And we've haven't had any real swings-and-misses in 1st round since Quenneville in 2014 (and that pick should have been #9 instead of #30).

        Also
2007: Corbin McPherson --> Alec Martinez
2008: Kory Nagy --> Jared Spurgeon
        2009: Jacob Josefsson --> Ryan O'Reilly
2009: Alexander Urbom --> Matthias Ekholm
2010: Joe Faust --> John Klinberg
2010: Maxime Clermont --> Mark Stone
2011: Reid Boucher --> Johnny Gaudreau
2012: Alexander Kerfoot (oof) --> Connor Brown
2013: Miles Bell --> MacKenzie Weeger
2014: John Quenneville --> Brayden Point
2015: Colten White --> Kirill Kaprizov
2016: Nate Bastian --> Adam Fox

...and so on....(same for every other team too).

I wasn’t doing as much later round stuff like Stone and also the last complete miss was zacha. He has been good but look at all the names after him. The devils had the 6th overall pick in one of the most stacked drafts ever and they whiffed even though he is good he is more of a top 6 forward where as many of the names after him are elite. Same with Hischier, good player, leader but comparing him to some players after him it is not even close. Cake Makar is one of the best defense we have seen in years. He is easily the best defensman in the league.

        Neither of those are whiffs.

Look across the Hudson and the long list of guys they have taken in 1st round. Look at Boston’s three guys from 2015 draft (then look at three that came after).

I often hear how Colorado has hit on all their 1st rounders which is why they are so good. It’s partly true with many of their picks. But they also had to endure:

        Joey Hishon
        Connor Bleackley
        Duncan Siemens
        Tyson Jost

        Nobody bats 1.000.

Yeah but having the 6 overall pick in the most stacked draft ever and taking a decent top 6 forward when you could have taken a superstar and having the 1st overall pick and not taking one of the best players in the draft

I have no problems with Zacha at #6.
Would I rather have Rantanen? Sure. But I am not complaining.
Zacha is still a top-10-15 player for that draft.

He would probably be late 1st round early second round and yeah I am not constantly upset that we have zacha but when your looking at this There are so many better players
