Why do people have revisionist eyes like this? Why make yourself sad?

Yeah man, on one end, history is going to show SEA kind of blew the expansion draft. Whatever three dimensional chess they think they were playing, I'm not sure it has panned out.

On the other end, that is also how expansion drafts have always gone. What VGK did was unprecedented - their expansion draft caught a lot of teams off guard, whereas most teams were ready for SEA, and plus it just sort of turned out that VGK happened to strike gold with how their player selections did turn out. They were able to have their cake (take on bad contracts and and avoid desired players at the cost of major assets) and eat it too (win on the ice).

Anyone who says they saw Karlsson turning into a PPG powerhouse is an absolute liar.

Though, I got no explanation for the Wennberg contract. It is almost the exact same one CBJ signed him to, and he got bought out in three years.

I mean, drafting Beniers, still sucking, getting a top 5 pick this year, sending them back to wherever they were playing, sucking again, and drafting 1 of Bedard or Michkov in 2023 would be some pretty 5head stuff. Why steal someone else's superstars when you can have your 1st one be home grown? If the balls bounce their way, they could be stacked at forward for quite a long time. They probably could have drafted some more rental guys to sell off for more pieces at the deadline, but I assume their plan was to tank for a couple drafts and build a nice sustainable farm system so they dont have to deal with all the cap bull**** Vegas is dealing with for at least another 5 years

There were definitely some odd moves but long term they will be good with some top prospects in back to back to likely back drafts. The roster they built is okay but the problem you got is everyone figured it out after Vegas. IMO there was never going to be a 2.0 version of that because teams got fleeced.

I guess. It just feels like a couple of their picks/signing could’ve been done without or for cheaper, if the goal was to tank it out. Plus, banking on the lottery to go your way is a risky endeavor, unless you are going for AZ levels of awfulness.

Then again, just watch like, PIT find some way to get Shane Wright this year.
