Description
At this point between the road trip, icing an ahl team, and the strength of the metro this season is pretty much over. This team doesnt need to rebuild but selling some rentals at the TDL and getting some picks seems like the best course of action.
Im just hoping lou doesnt try to ram things through at the TDL and make a push when the seasons already over.

These trades take place at the TDL.

Calgary - a solid bottom 6 skill player hes been playing all over the lineup for NYI and playing well. Hes been really unlucky in the points department and he plays all situations for 750k.

Ottawa - bailey is an interesting player. For the past 5 years hes scored/on pace for 50 points over a full season, thats something gms like, consistency. Hes also been if im not mistaken our leading scorer in both playoff runs the last 2 years. This year he started out again on a 50 point pace, then for a few games he didnt score and it turned out he had covid. Hes also a vet and a leader which is another thing gms value a lot.

Columbus - chara is not a good player but he does gave a lot of experience. He can still be a 7/8 defenseman and for a team making a playoff push he can be valuable especially a young team bc of his leadership. Could be any team i just picked CBJ bc of their very young d.

Edmonton - this deal is based on a few assumptions.
1- varly gets back to form soon. He missed training camp and the beginning of the season and when he did play they were either on the back end of a month long road trip or putting out an ahl team in front of him. Goalies need time to get into a rythm so im not really worried atm. 2- holland is upgrading LD as well and moves russell just to clear cap, he has no inherent value in this trade. Varly has been a top 5 goalie the last 2 years and can be an absolute beast. In a league where goalies can win or lose a series singlehandedly, it helps to have a goalie that can make a run. Personally i dont have confidence that smith/koskinen can make a deep playoff run.

Boston - any team looking for a solid bottom 6 player. He kills penalties and is a physical player who can pop a few pucks into the net.

St. Louis - any team thats looking for a 6/7 defenseman who can play both sides.

Ottawa declines no interest in a left-shot older declining middle 6 player, they are going young and fast.

Nurse's new contract kicks in next year, and the raise in pay consumes almost all of the cap space opened up when Koskinen's contract expires. Most of the depth players in Edmonton are at, or near, league minimum salary. Among that group, only Turris and Russell make more than $1M. Bringing back players like Benson and Sceviour, and promoting players like Holloway and Broberg won't open much cap space. Signing Puljujarvi and Yamamoto long-term will be difficult. Unless Duncan Keith retires after this season, the Oilers would have some serious consequences to ponder if they have to accommodate Varlamov's $5M cap hit

I'm amused at the idea of Chara mentoring the youngsters on our blueline, but I dunno if we're actually going to be doing a playoff push or not. The team's above expectations right now and that's awesome, but we're still kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop.
