Trade Deadline

Initial Creation Date: Nov. 24, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tried to make a fairly realistic trade deadline, details for each trade are as follows:

The Pittsburgh trade kills two birds with one stone, they get Namestnikov (who I've seen traded there quite often in ACGMs) to bolster their top 9, and they replace the underperforming DeSmith with a proven 1B in Greiss. Riikola is there for cap reasons, and to fill a roster spot on D that will soon open up from other deals. I valued this with a first rounder coming Detroit's way (they are retaining on Greiss), but another valuation I'd have is a second and a fourth from Pittsburgh without the fifth coming back from Detroit. I'm not overly confident on those valuations though, so feel free to give some feedback in the comments.

Stecher trade could be with plenty of teams, I just picked the Jackets because they might want a more experienced RD on the cheap if they find themselves on the bubble around the deadline.

While I'd love to help out the Islanders and sell them Leddy at half retention, the league wouldn't allow it. The problem is... I can't find a single contending team that would need a guy like Leddy on their left side. They're all filled out. While I could technically swap him for another guy, that just devalues the return and makes me want to keep him. The closest I can find is St. Louis, but I'd need to take a significant contract back to keep everything cap compliant. At half retention, there are 5 players I could look at. On offense there's four players, but two of them are really good, one of them is also really good but a little less so, and the last one is Oskar Sundqvist. He's also good, but he, like the other three, has two more years left on his contract. While I think he could work as part of the return, I could probably do better. On defense, there's Scandella. That's it. Bortuzzo is close, but it's not enough. Scandella has three more years on his contract. I like Scandella, I think he's a good player, but I don't really know if I want him for three years. Thinking it over though, he seems like he'd be a great partner for Hronek, and if he becomes worse by the last year of his contract, no biggie. His cap hit isn't a killer. Sorry for the big ramble, TL;DR Leddy to STL for Scandella is the best trade I can think of at this time. If you can, let me know if the price is right.

Overall, I think this is fairly realistic, but if you have any feedback (whether the team would possibly be interested in the assets, if the prices I used are realistic) feel free to comment.

Yeah, I have the same concerns with the contract length. Thinking about it a little more though, I think his capabilities as a defensive defenseman are good enough that he could be a capable partner for Hronek in the next two seasons, and the cap hit isn't all too bad for what he brings to the table. I added the sixth to try and sweeten the value a bit, but opinions on the return may still be split. Getting a first rounder was the main mission, and I'd say that's mission accomplished as long as the Blues would accept that offer.

Ok so i know people won't love the scandella trade but I'm all for it. I wish it wasn't 3 more years but I agree he maybe a good fit with hronek. I doubt you get a 1st out of Pittsburg for names and greiss. Still it makes sense for pitts just not that return.

Yeah, that might've been pushing it a little bit. I thought about it as both the value of Namestnikov and the value of half-retained Greiss, which I'd value at a little below a first, so I added a fifth on Detroit's end to try and push the deal through. Just went with the principle that solving two issues at once would cost a slight premium, which is worth a try. I included an alternate return in the description, a second and a fourth (but without the fifth from Detroit). That'd probably be a more realistic outcome.

The 1st rounder would be great. I think STL would accept the offer you put together. Just think retaining (all-be-it an expiring deal) would've netted a bit more. Just my opinion.

Blues decline. Leddy is not a big enough upgrade on Scandella to warrant giving up a first. He's also not the type of defenseman they need.

Assuming the Jackets do opt for low-profile buys at the deadline, we'd want a defensive RD, and IIRC that doesn't really describe Stecher.
