You're not getting a Prospect AND a 1st... it's one or the other

He's not worth a 1st. A 3rd/4th OR a B prospect.

the guy was playing 28 min per game during the playoffs and its the market : in a void yes... thats his value, but at TD where all team want to make their team better - he is worth a first.... lord, Savard got a first.

and we are talking a top 25 pick too.

You keep pointing out the Savard trade while failing to acknowledge that many replacement level defensemen change teams every deadline for far less than a 1st. https://www.capfriendly.com/trades?event=deadline

I have come around on Chiarot (half retained) for a 1st. If Nurse is out at all longer than 2-3 weeks, Chiarot would be not just for a playoff run, but helping the backend not collapse mid season. With Koekkoek out, Russell plays more, which usually leads to Russell getting banged up. Keith is already banged up too, and even if not out long, playing 25 mins a night he is sure to keep getting sore and miss more. Broberg is looking nice, but playing him 20 mins or more could be quite bad for his development imo, that's intense. At this point, with the team when playing well poised to make that pick in the late part of the 1st round, I would be happy to send it for Chiarot at half price. Just my take though. Chiarot's value being not just a playoff piece, but a regular season patch up as well, makes it probably worth it.

Keith played 23:25 on average last year, playing 25 for a couple of weeks is a walk in the park for him.

Stop panicking. Nurse will be back in 2 weeks or less.

Looks like Keith is out too. So If Russell, Broberg, Lagesson are left side for more than just tonight, then yes I'll be slightly panicked. But not sure how serious what happened to him will end up being. Hard to tell with older guys.

Keith is out day-to-day. Broberg can handle tons of minutes (not ideal due to being young, but he's an effortless skater with great conditioning) and maybe they get a look at Niemeläinen, too. The next 4-5 games aren't going to make or break the season.

As a Habs fan, the 1st rounder is more than enough for Chiarot, but at the deadline depending on how many other teams come calling, Oilers may have to sweeten the pot a little

That’s your opinion, but precedent will dictate what he’s worth. Which is most likely a late 1st

Look at last year's deadline and all the replacement level defensemen that were traded for mid and late round picks. Why are those not precedents for you? Because you're looking at the situation through a biased lens.

Chiarot has been linked to the OIlers by two separate sources who both indicate that Holland is willing to move a 1st and prospects for a "gritty top 4 LHD". I don't get the issue. Lavoie has 4 points in I believe 14 games and the Oilers first is looking like a glorified 2nd rounder lol

That's what Chiarot is, properly slotted. A 3rd pairing defenseman.

I'm a Habs fan Ben Chiarot IS NOT a bottom pair dman. watch hockey...this statement is laughable. He's a top 4 DMAN all day long

Not a good top-4. Look at his results OVER HIS ENTIRE CAREER, he's never been good defensively. If he's in the top-4 but he's the weak link, he doesn't belong there. If he WAS a good top-4 guy, you'd want to re-sign him, but you don't.

True, he was the weak link last year on a SCF team playing 25 physically dominant and tough defensive min a night. #freezingcoldtake

Did you really just say that in response to a post that says "Look at his results OVER HIS ENTIRE CAREER" ??

You should be embarrased.

OHHHH right my bad. So current NHL GMS are gonna start trading for players based on what they did back in 2009, makes total sense
