Chiarots reg season and playoff value to the Oil should now be a 1st

Created by: Oilyboy
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 24, 2021
Published: Nov. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I was reluctant to think so before, but Chiarot would hold down the top pairing for a decent chunk of games, and then stop Keith/Russell from getting overworked and inevitably banged up rolling into the post season. The regular season benefits, plus the playoff shut down experience he brings, makes this trade worth it now, imo. Especially since, if he can help keep the defense afloat and games winnable through this injury stretch, that 1st should still be in the mid to late 20's by the end of the season.

Chiarot is a replacement level player. He has pretty consistently performed worse than his teams throughout his career, allowing more shots, goals, scoring chances etc than his teammates did while he was on the bench. He's not worth a 1st on a good day.

This is a panic move based on Nurse being out for 2 weeks (first time in like 5 years that he's even missed a single game) and Keith being day-to-day with an upper body injury.

Don't panic buy.

I mean, some bad GM will probably pay that, but he's not remotely worth it.

I mean he was playing top 4 when him and the rest of Montreal's D bounced Toronto from the playoffs last year and that was after Montreal went down 3-1 in the series. Is that why your so salty about Chiarot?

yeah, and he got mauled in that series. Utterly pounded into the dirt in such a comical fashion it could have been a highlight reel for how not to defend. Just because Cary Price went full hero behind him doesnt mean he was any good, hell he full on scored 3 goals himself on price that series.
but sure, he played top 4 on that team!

I see you have a skewed sense of getting pounded into the dirt considering he played over 25 minutes a night and Toronto only managed to get 2 points combined from Matthews, Marner and Nylander over the final 3 games of the series. More like Chiarot pounded the soft Leafs forwards into the dirt and then ground their bones into dust and spit on them just for fun.

ah yes, that's why when he was on the ice the leafs were able to keep the puck constantly, put up shots at an insane rate, cycle him into the dirt etc etc etc.
C'mon man, I literally said it was all Carey Price, because it was literally all Carey Price. it is very very simple, but if you wanna pretend the terrible defender who cross checks people a lot is good, then that's on you, but where I come from, defenders actually, you know, defend and dont hand out high quality shots like they're giving out samples at costco

Sure, they put up an insane number of perimeter shots any team can do that LOL, The fact that Chiarot, Weber, Edmundson, Petry and Romanov punished the softy Leafs for getting anywhere near Carey doesn't play any factor at right (insert eyeroll). The Leafs were too scared to go to the net and deal with the bigger stronger Habs defenders it is as simple as that LMAO. Carey was phenomenal no doubt about that but one guy didn't completely destroy the Leafs it was a bigger stronger more punishing team that did that.

actually, if you watched the games, or checked the stats or did anything involved in actually learning about the series you'd know that the leafs crushed the habs for high danger shots no matter who was on the ice, but especially chariot. You know, shots that arnt from the perimeter, shots that come from the front of the net. and the 'dirty areas'
so, whats next?

High danger shots are anything from the top of the faceoff circles to the front of the net. Just cause a shot is considered high danger doesn't actually mean it wasn't a perimeter shot. Montreal boxed out the front of the net and only really gave up shots from the top of the circles or at very sharp ages very rarely was there a slot shot or net front shot. Also included in high danger shots are the breakaways and 2 on 1' which Montreal's slow defense was prone to giving up regularly. That is where Price really shone. Keeping the Habs in games.

The high danger shot/chance stat can be so misleading and SOOO many high danger chances/shots started from a perimeter or point shot which is considered low danger but resulted in a rebound or traffic around the net.

so, let me get this straight, a point or perimeter shot that turns into a rebound that then becomes a high danger shot because it is from a high danger area isnt a high danger shot?
Shouldnt a good defender be able to prevent those high danger rebounds from becoming shots? limit tips? not screen their goalie?

Deflections shouldn't count as high danger? That's how most goals are scored in the playoffs.

No that's not what I'm saying, point or perimeter shots aren't considered high danger but often high danger chances come from that original point or perimeter shot which is considered low danger.

Are deflections counted as high danger? I said nothing about deflections anyway but a lot of deflections are off of point or perimeter shots which are considered low danger aren't they?

Problem with your theory is Price didn't give up a lot of rebounds, when there was a rebound the Habs D usually got to it first and cleared it. There just weren't those 2nd and 3rd opportunities for the Leafs. You can be critical of Chiarot all you want and try to skew opinions about his worth cause you are salty that the Habs bounced the Leafs from the first round of the playoffs for what must by now be some kind of record. The Habs D was better than the Leafs forwards, like it or not that is what ultimately won the series. Price didn't clear the front of his net on his own LOL. Montreal was the better team and wanted it more.

well it doesnt really matter how a change becomes a high danger shot if it becomes one, because then it still is. And a deflection is 'technically' a shot, im not sure if one off the foot or whatever counts, but purposeful stick ones do.
Either way, a good defender would limit those high danger chances and Chariot does not.

I agree Chiarot is not worth a fist rounder, but at the trade deadline, with a handful of other playoffs teams calling, he is in fact worth a 1st rounder and might even fetch a little more. depending on how many teams come calling.

man, you really like to dig in with that 'salty because the habs bounced the leafs" stuff eh? I mean, it couldnt possibly be because Chariot is just bad right? I mean, lots of Habs played well in that series, especially Price and Danault.
But chariot stunk. He didnt clear rebounds, he didnt reduce shots, or attempts. Price didnt need to clear his own net because like you said, he didnt give up a ton of rebounds because like I said, he went into god mode, and any time he did, well he just made the 2nd and 3rd save most of the time. Chariot didnt clear jack because he was too busy screening price or chasing some forward to crosscheck them instead of playing well defensively.
You are doing everything in your power to give the worst part of that habs defence all the credit for some weird reason.

Hey want ACTUAL proof that Montreal's D was far better than Prices impact in the playoffs? See the graphic in the link below and focus on the caption that reads "MONTREALS DEFENSE SINCE GAME 4 VS LEAFS" then look at the stats

Slot shots 11 per game ranked 1st in playoffs
Inner slot shots 4.4 per game rank 1st in playoffs
Rebounds 1 per game rank 1st in playoffs
Expected goals per game 2.05 rank 2nd in playoffs
Goals 2 per game ranked 2nd in playoffs

MIC DROP!!!!

I love how you've just basically just whittled yourself down to "montreals defence!" Instead of chariot because you know he was terrible in the research youve done and you still give numbers where more than half your points can 100% be explained ny the words 'carey price'

I believe Chiarot was a huge part of that Defense considering he played over 25 minutes a night on the top pair and top PK units.

I just proved how little you paid attention cause you literally said that Toronto DOMINATED the high danger shots yet Montreal gave up the fewest slot and inner slot shots in the playoffs. Yup you are definitely just a salty Leafs fan.

Well, he wasnt. You can literally see it jn his isolated numbers, or if you watched the games
