Next Year

Team: 2022-23 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 25, 2021
Published: Nov. 25, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Feels like we have 4 middle 6 lines. Will be an interesting year to see who rises to the top.

Hard to set up the line up if you assume Krebs, Quinn and Peterka all make the jump. I will not tolerate anyone telling me to put asplund on the 4th line.

The Tyler Johnson trade is a cap floor trade.

This will be an important developmental year to see who our next core will be. Still plenty of depth in the system and three firsts.

I agree that Asplund should not play with Zemgus and Okposo, but Peterka too, he is not a checker, but a creative player, not an easy task.

Hawks got a 2nd for taking him with 3 years left, so I doubt we pay more when he has 2 years left

I think ruotsalainen might be gone. I was looking forward to seeing what kind of offense he could bring, after having seen how he produced in europe and the ahl. If his current usage is any indication, hes not going to get a chance. I dont think theres much point to putting a 5'5" scoring forward on your 4th line for 10 minutes a game, but thats where we are. And with guys like tuch, krebs, quinn, and/or peterka all gunning for those top 9 spots...i just dont see mutual interest. You could make the point that our centers are an area of concern, and i would agree, but ruotsalainen hasnt claimed a center spot yet, and you have mittelstadt and possibly our 22 first round pick that might be competing for ice time too. He has the rest of the season to make the most of his opportunities, but its not trending the right way now.
