Dahlin > Hughes so no thanks to downgrading there. Pettersson is good but it's much wiser for Buffalo to keep those 2 1sts and nab two more good pieces for the pipeline

Hahaha dude you wouldn't give up two late 1st for Elias Pettersson?

Hughes and Dahlin are similar but you really can't say Dahlin is better. You could however say Hughes is better. But not to Pettersson for two late 1st is silly town.

Of course I'd give up 2 late 1sts for Pettersson but not a chance Vancouver does that lol. Dahlin is better than Hughes currently and has a higher ceiling. No way I'd trade a guy who will be a borderline franchise 2-way D-man for an elite offense only defenseman. Not a chance

Dahlin has never shown anywhere close to the offense Hughes has. And Dahlin has been worse defensively.

Ah yes, you mean Quinn Hughes, who's career high is 53 points (25 of which were not at even strength) during his rookie campaign as a 20 year old. Quinn Hughes, who has 29 hits in his illustrious career. Quinn Hughes, who this year has a 1.82 points per 60. Against one Rasmus Dahlin, who's career high of 44 points (20 on the PP) was achieved as an 18 year old. Rasmus Dahlin, who doesn't shy away from the physical aspect of the game has 276 hits in his career. Rasmus Dahlin, who this year has a 1.6 points per 60. The difference in offense is not big, especially when you factor in the game style of the two players, obviously Hughes is more offensive and thus gets more points, but only 0.22 points per 60 more this season. Defensively there is not much difference either. If you can point to some stats that show Hughes is better defensively then more power to you. A defenseman who never plays physical; that's not a positive thing. And the real reminder needed here is that Dahlin is younger and was raved about by literally every scout imaginable saying he was the next Lidstrom, Karlsson, Hedman etc. You wanna tell me they are all going to end up being dead wrong? Cause if Quinn Hughes is miles better than Dahlin like you suggest, then you also indirectly state that these scouts are out to lunch

This is going to be a fun one. Let look into this

Career:

PPG Hughes .75 Dahlin .55
+/- Hughes -32 Dahlin -57
Ice time Hughes 22:29 Dahlin 20:58
Corsi Hughes 59.3 Dahlin 56.1
Corsi rel Hughes 17 Dahlin 11.3

Dahlin is 200 days younger than Hughes and has more NHL experience yet almost every metric favours Hughes. Dahlin has more hits though which is worth something. Hughes also has a playoff series where he literally broke the record for rookie defenseman scoring. He is also I think the 7th faster defenseman to 100 points in their career. Hughes has been a historically good offensive, transition and possession defenseman.

Here is a link to a great comparison of advanced metrics: https://www.naturalstattrick.com/playercompare.php?fromseason=20212022&thruseason=20212022&stype=2&sit=all&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=n&p1=8480800&p2=8480839&loc=B&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single

There is almost no metric where Dahlin is ahead. Of the 40 stats Hughes leads 35 of them Dahlin leads 3 and theyre tied on 2

As far as the scouts go, I don't think any scout thought Hughes would be this good and I think most scouts thought Dahlin would be better. What does that mean now? Lafrenierre has done basically nothing and scouts raved about him. It's more about what have you actually done. They play a very similar style Hughes and Dahlin and last yr during Hughes down yr they were very similar players but beyond that you can't really point to any part of Dahlin's game that is better than Hughes beside physicality.

Moot points since you threw in +/- which isnt a statistic that shows anything except how good or bad your team is. My main point here is Dahlin's ceiling gives him more value than Hughes. His size, physicality, two-way game and leadership are all continuing to grow and evolve. Time will tell sincd both are still very young and D tend to develop slower than forwards. Dahlin was touted as a franchise defenseman. Granted he hasnt been that yet but again, hes young and he is actually getting better. Hughes was probably touted as top 4 D and now would be considered an elite top 4 D man, but still not franchise level. Yes he has been more productive offensively this far in his career. Would Buffalo trade Dahlin for Hughes? Definitely not. To suggest otherwise is pure malarky

You said that Dahlin is currently better than Hughes. I said that the best you could argue is they're equal you couldn't based on any stat or analysis suggest Dahlin is better. I said you can make an argument that Hughes is better though. I then showed you how all the stats have favored Hughes. Your moot point because of +/- was a nice attempt to get out of your embarrassment though. Not that +/- is the best stat but that was just a hilarious comment. BTW would you trade Dahlin for Cale Makar? If you say no you aren't being honest, it also happens to destroy your well Dahlin was a bigger prospect during his draft yr therefore theory. A lot can change in the yrs after a draft.

I never escape embarrassment, I soak in it. Sadly there was no embarrassment for me on my end. I hold the belief that Dahlin is and will be better than Hughes. If you don’t agree that’s fine
