I'm high on this guy although Demelo is tempting.

Trades:
Giordano to the Islanders to solidify their LD with a veteran option who is also a good puck mover. Seattle gets a future LD in Salo, two second round picks and they take on the cap hits of Hickey and Panik to make the money work.

Stetcher to the Habs to give them an upgrade at RD after losing Weber. Seattle gets Cale Fleury so we have both brothers and a third round pick.

Vatrano to the Avs to give them some help in the middle six. Vatrano either hit or was on pace to hit 20 goals in the last 3 seasons with a reasonable cap hit. Kraken receive Beaucage who looks like he could be a decent goal scorer himself in the future and a third.

Trade for Yanni Gourde at the Entry Draft to help Tampa with their cap crunch, give up a fourth for him. Not sure if they could have got something coming from Tampa to take him or not.

Maatta to the Oilers or any team that needs a shut down defenseman mid season for a second with retention.

Domi to the Leafs seems to make sense. Replace Ritchie with a player that has some grit and toughness and can keep up with the skill of the Leafs forwards.

LTIR are players that wouldn't be signed as they wouldn't be needed.

Last retention slot for a Subban trade sometime by the deadline.

Francis messed up and I think it should be getting so much more coverage.
Didn’t leverage cap space
Took players who he either lost or didn’t intend on keeping.
Ignored valued players due to high cap. (Tarasenko, domi, etc), (((not price)))). Heck even zadorov fetched a 3rd. When he took a player who walked as a free agent. …. Like what the actual….

He wasted the shot he had and has now left the trem with a middling roster and a 2nd overall pick playing at Michigan. You can’t compare to Vegas. But ffs. He blew it.
If makes me mad how good he could have done with simple picks and leveraging but didn’t do it. Take tarasenko. Take domi, take zadorov. Take nhl players with experience. But oh…. Let’s take Gavin bayreuther over stenlund and domi cuz they both make nhl salary.

I agree with this, looking at the players he's lost for nothing or wasted picks on so far Bastian, Cholowski, ABB, Bayreuther, Quenneville. That doesn't even include the picks he used to pick players that probably don't really have much impact compared to bonafide NHL players. Not even knocking these guys just feel there were better options.

I'd agree he did a p**s poor job tbh. I honestly thought he'd do better even though a lot of GMs were a bit wiser to things after Vegas. Avs would probably have liked Vatrano though not sure on the value in the trade and I'd say that's too much for one year of an expensive 38 year old Giordano.

Make no mistake, Francis is not good with trades. But he's EXCELLENT in the draft. He's taken a lot of high-end talent, and I think he was pushing to compete, but he's got a lot of good pieces he can ship off for assets because it's an expansion team and they always suck. Players like Giordano, Johansson, Blackwell.. even some of the guys with term, he can ship off and build for the future. It's enough to keep competitive and keep the new fans entertained (hence building the fanbase) but it's also smart enough to keep selling good players off. He knows this isn't a contender. He used his cap space to attract big names, which means jersey sales and new fans. He's actually done alright. Is it the best case scenario? 100% no. But I think he's put the organization in a good position with his work.

It really pains me to criticize quite possibly the
greatest Whaler ever..(😆😅).. but yeah he didn't do a very good job building this lineup, he does have a lot of tradable assets though so should be able to get some decent picks and prospects should he decide to tear it down a bit and build through the draft.

The Kraken were never going to have the same success as Vegas did, and it is really stupid to compare the 2 franchises. Everyone can see where Vegas is right now. They are trying to win now and are completely screwed cap wise. The Kraken are starting their franchise the complete opposite of how Vegas did. The Kraken never were planning to go all in first year. They were always planning to build a core for the first couple of years and build up draft capital to draft better players, and then go for the cup for a long time. The Kraken are going after what the Penguins were able to accomplish. The Penguins haven’t missed the playoffs since 2006.

Seattle’s plan was to make several runs at the cup over a long period of time, like the Penguins have been doing since 2007.

Vegas’ plan was to win the cup as soon as possible at any cost. Vegas is currently screwed cap wise for the foreseeable future

While I do think that Francis could have made better selections during the expansion draft to trade away for more draft capital, it will still work out that way.

On a side note, Francis made the right choice in selecting Geekie over Bean. Bean has struggled defensively and offensively last year, and he isn’t looking much better this year. I do have very high hopes for Heimosalmi though.

I am not comparing to Vegas at all actually, but I also don't believe Vegas has any intentions of winning right off the bat. You look at how they drafted and some of the trades they made, they were planning on building through the draft but just had early success so they ran with it.
Also with the Bean over Geekie, I make that selection and make the trade to Columbus so doesn't matter how good he's playing now lol. Also last I saw he was playing top pairing on the right side so that might be a bit over his pay grade.
With Francis out wasn't even so some of the players selected, but more the fact he selected players and never bothered to sign them. Bayreuther, Quenneville, Bastian and Cholowski he selected and let go for nothing. He could have easily made picks for NHL players there and either moved them or used them. That's my biggest issue with it anyways.
