Nope, a second is not going to cut it for Fiala, no matter whose 2nd it is. Fiala's value is much higher than that and this offer will be topped by multiple other teams.

Minnesota hangs up and block your number. Fiala is worth more than a 2nd round pick

Maybe you do not know but Oettinger is NHL ready and he his 22 years old.

Our other NHL goaltenders are 35, 35 and 32 years old. One is always injured, another one is on a rapid decline and the other one is OK but kind of suspect.

And we have no other young NHL promising goaltender in the prospect pool.

In conclusion, Oettinger is untouchable.

Right now, Kevin Fiala would be Buffalo's most valuable forward. (Cozens and perhaps others may overtake him in the future, but not this season.) That trade is laughably insulting and insultingly laughable.

The Nucks bought Garland with the #9 overall pick last spring. What makes them want to sell him for a late 1st?

What I mean is that there is NO executive in any front office in the NHL in his right mind who would exchange Fiala for any one of Olofsson, Asplund or Thompson, and probably not TWO of them.

Olofsson has played only 127 games in the NHL while Fiala has played 356 despite being a full year younger. In his 127 games, Olofsson has 40 goals and 49 assists for 89 points. Meanwhile, in his last three seasons with Minnesota, Fiala has 46 goals and 60 assists for 106 points in 133 games. Do you really think that they are equivalent?

Asplund and Thompson are only a year younger than Fiala, and haven't shown anything like his upside. In 76 games, Asplund is scoring at a 1/3-pt-per-game pace, while Thompson, although he is now finally showing some signs of life, hasn't proven he's even NHL calibre yet (164 games and only 48 -- forty-eight!! -- points).

In short, the idea that any of those three players is more valuable than Kevin Fiala is utterly delusional.

Let's agree that Fiala is worth a lot more than a second, that my friends is a no brainer.
OldNYIfan you make valid points to support your belief.
I think if Olofsson played for the Wild the previous seasons, his production would be significantly higher as they scored nearly a goal a game more than Buffalo.
But more to the point while Fiala would be a great addition, he plays left wing. I would never insinuate that Olofsson, Asplund, Skinner, Girgensons, Bjork are a good as Fiala but if I am making a trade to improve the Sabres it would be for a RW.
Let's all take a deep breath and agree to disagree.

You're wrong there...

Fiala has primarily played RW for the Wild since coming to the team, roughly around the TDL mark in January in his first season with us. He's pretty much been played there ever since then. He plays both wing positions, and IMO is much better on his off-hand wing position then on his natural left. Like a lot of Europeans.

Trade secret: Most Wild wingers can play their off-hand wing positions. It's a hallmark of our system and one of the reasons our depth is so good. The ability to switch our wingers up with anyone and move them up and down the lineup, as needed, is why we're so flexible organizationally.
