I think the only trade that gets considered here is Carolina. Even then, I think the Canes probably pass. This is just too much for someone that's only hit the 20 goal mark twice and the 50 point mark once.

He’s hit 20 goals 3 times. Last 2 season here, and also did it with Nashville in 17-18. I also feel it’s worth noting that he played 80 games in 17-18, but hasn’t actually played more than 64 games in a season since then. So if you just look at the stat line, it’s a little misleading. Context matters with Fiala, because you say things like “50 points once”, but he’s a career .54 ppg, and .74 over the last 150 games. Just not an honest representation of his production.

I like the Carolina trade purely from a value perspective, and I would personally do it because I really like Fiala's game and I think Carolina needs an elite shooter, but Carolina doesn't need any more top-9 wingers... maybe if someone goes down long term they consider it but otherwise there's nowhere in the lineup for Fiala.

It's pretty standard on this site for people to not have a clue when it comes to Fiala. There's no reason for Fiala to be any less valuable than Boeser, yet if you ask most people, Boeser would get double the return Fiala would.

I I don’t think Devils would do Sharangovich. (I don’t think any of our young centers would put out there).

Boqvist, Thompson or Clarke if it’s a center you need. Kuokkanen can play center too, but hasn’t really at NHL level. Or Nolan Foote? Basically young forward with upside (and warts) along with picks, salary.

If Turcotte, Zary, or Holloway are available…I’d go with one of them (in that order).

Overall, i would think Boeser has slight edge over Fiala. But for Devils system (speed, possession) and personnel (chemistry with Nico), I would probably put them on par with each other.

I did a post comparing Boeser Fiala and two others here

I did some other Fiala posts here here here on Fiala trade comps

Miller is so much better than fiala and has another year after this where as fiala needs a new deal and knowing him he’s gonna ask for 8m when he’s worth around 4

Fiala is worth 4 mil? Jt Miller isn't that much better than Fiala. You are showing ignorance by valuing Fiala @ 4.

2019-2021

TOI/GP (5v5)
Fiala: 12:26
Boeser: 14:00

G/60
Fiala: 0.94
Boeser: 0.72

P/60
Fiala: 2.23
Boeser: 1.93

xGAR
Fiala: 17.8
Boeser: 6.3

xWAR
Fiala: 3.2
Boeser: 1.1

xSPAR
Fiala: 6
Boeser: 2.1

g/GP
Fiala: 0.34
Boeser: 0.33

p/GP
Fiala: 0.81
Boeser: 0.78

Most Common Linemates
Fiala: Parise, Koivu, Johansson, Hartman, Bonino, Gaudreau, Hartman
Boeser: Pettersson, Miller, Hoglander

Since 2019-20, Fiala has the same output as Boeser despite less time, which means he scores at a higher rate. He drives play better and creates better offensive opportunities for himself and his linemates. He has a more positive impact on the game and contributes more to team success. He does all of this despite having significantly worse linemates.

The two teams have had similar PP% during that time, and Fiala and Boeser produce similar output (total points) on the PP as well, despite the fact that Boeser has averaged 1:03 more on the PP per game during that time. That means he gets 38% more PP time than Fiala does, and produces the same number of points on an equally competent power play.

All of this is to say, whatever Boeser is better at is due to his opportunity (much more time on ice, much better linemates), than him actually being better.

You make a good case!

I think they belong in same tier.
What’s interesting to me is seeing what some people are paying Boeser for his next contract. I think he signs Reinhart-like extension (shorter term, ~$6m per annum). But I have seen $8mx8 which I think would be nuts.

What do people think Fiala wants?

It was reported he was looking for "kaprizov money" last offseason.

With absolutely no substantiation behind it. It was speculation, not reporting.

Do you really think he was trying to get 9-10M when he ended up signing for 5M?

no tbh I think he was asking for 7-8M for 6 years plus. Obviously there was a big difference in price between him and the team.

I think he has a pretty good case for 7M on a longer term contract. So whatever the issue is with signing that contract, it's on the team, not him.

Yeah and I'm not sure why, because he's a very good player and he's gotten a very raw deal here over the last couple of years.
