Because theres no chance they trade one of the OHL's leading goal scorers and a 1st round pick for Toffoli. They can do better than Toffoli with that. The Rangers need a playoff rental, not a contract. Someone like Pavelski would make ALOT more sense for them than Toffoli.

I'll name 50 better players who make less... what has he done that warrants keeping him, especially since he needs a new contract. This loyalty to sub-par players has been an issue for the habs in the last 25 years.

Depends the contract he gets
Gallagher
Byron are bad contracts
Anything under 2.5M for Lehkonen is worth it
You can’t have 10 forwards who can’t play defense & have no heart. Right we only have Lehkonen Evans & Gallagher who has heart, and only Evans & Lehkonen who can play defense. Look where the teams at right now …

Boy, you make it sound like GMs don't trade prospects at all ever then... i guess the habs shld hold onto Mysak since he must be better than Cuylle

Yeah and the same goes for Caps. They can't afford Lehkonen and already have a great bottom 6 filled with cheaper players. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't give up assets for yet another one. Maybe if they could also send a more expensive contract (like Hagelin's) the other way.

He is in his draft + 1 so it's not saying much that he is good on the OHL. Every team has a point per game player in junior they can point to, doesn't mean they're gonna do that in the NHL or be anything close to it. How would a guy who is older, signed to more money and a rental make more sense? Look at the trades for Goodrow and Coleman trades, basically the same as this and Toffoli gets that same kind of return.

He also had an excellent training camp with the Rangers, however the only thing the Rangers could do with him is either put him on the main roster or he goes back to juniors. With massively limited space on the main roster there was nothing else for them to do.

As far as not trading prospects, I never said that. I said they could do better in a trade like that. Toffoli doesnt fit for the Rangers. They got enough of the physical stuff, they need someone with skill. Kakko should go back to the 2nd line and they need to find someone to facilitate the first line.

If you want to say that you haven't seen toffoli play just say that... "physical stuff" is clearly not Toffoli's strength but he'd be a great finisher alongside talented playmakers (Panarin/Strome?). No, he won't be a top6 line driver but nobody trades these players at the deadline anyway.
