In what world does Buffalo consider that???

Buffalo wouldn't even trade Skinner alone for that

Despite him stabilizing a bit this season Skinner really still does have almost inverse Eichel value so it should be closer to his return from VGK recently

In a world where they want to properly compete in years to come with their nifty young core making it so that pick will be around 10th overall likely

Jeff even rn is still 5M$ negative value yearly

Currently as a 49 corsi team with PDO almost at 100 they're due to finish the season around .500 and mittsy and tuch returning will only help

Skinner nearing 30 likely to keep trending down

If I were them I'd try for a different return that takes back much more short term money that can be buried or bought out or broken down better but yeah

I think this is a good idea for Boston in a few years as their 2025-2030 looks barren but they should wait as they're still a 54% corsi team with low PDO

Still a contender but maybe a bit less due to age

This is likely the beginning of the end

The Sabres trade is absolutely LAUGHABLE
Why on earth would they trade away what’s likely to be a high 1st round pick???
The Sabres are ALREADY in a rebuild
And a couple of average Vets certainly aren’t gonna move the needle for them cut that short

Heck, i don’t think any of these trades are going through
Teams that are rebuilding themselves aren’t gonna give up their 1st round picks
There’s just no chance

Holy hyperbole, Batman! Yes, I'm sure BUF would hate to get out from one of the worst contracts in the NHL as painlessly as this.

Not a chance in hell Buffalo considers this

We don’t wanna get rid of Skinner,
we actually NEED his cap hit to get to the Cap floor

And we aren't gonna cut our rebuild short for guys like Smith & Moore
It’s utterly laughable that we’d consider this

I can understand where you're coming from, but the Sabres won't be cap-strapped for years with all their young contracts.

IF they decided Skinner needed to come off their books, this trade doesn't happen for at least another two seasons and once the cap rises so his contract isn't completely detrimental to the team their trading him to. This trade now would be counter-productive to a Sabres rebuild

It's a top 10 pick. We are nowhere close to the cap floor with out him and we are 2 years away from competing

It's laughably bad

If you look at the statement I quoted, you'll see I was referring to the part about BUF not wanting to do it for Skinner alone. Obviously with BUF's lottery pick involved, it's ludicrously bad for the Sabres.

Its fine as an exercise if you wanna see just how much it would take for a team to take jeff skinner at 9m for multiple seasons. Theres 31 nhl gms that are quite happy that jeff skinner isnt their problem, in no way does skinner at 9m in a flat cap have positive value. The reality is buffalo has no reason to move him right now, and every year he plays is 2 fewer years of retention when he does get bought out. I figure 2 years, the buyout looks almost bearable at that point. Trading first round picks to get cap space that we dont need, of course no.

I agree that this would be the worse trade the Sabres ever made.
Skinner is actually performing as expected. At this rate he will have 24 goals and 52 pts, close his life time average.
He is over paid as it was expected he would be playing with Jack and 40 goals seasons would be the norm.
Buffalo will NEED his contract for at least 3 more seasons and if he is bought out after that his buyout will last for only 4 more seasons.
The cap hits will be $4KK, $6KK, $2KK and $2KK, not good to have that much dead cap, but it is manageable.

This guy’s trade proposal lacks sense in the same way MANY of the Eichel trade proposals on here did
It’s really, really bad
