Funny, because you picked two players on the Rangers Drury would trade. Drury isn't trading Schneider, but Jones is a definite possibility.

That is a big overpayment for Pettersson. Wild decline.

The only real problem is Petterson is a RFA who will want a pay raise from $7.35m the final year of having $14m of dead cap from Parise/Suter which makes that REALLY hard to make work. Otherwise, I'd probably pull the trigger on that if I was Guerin.

That's more than Eichel got. Pettersson is half the player Eichel is when they're both healthy.

If Eichel was healthy and $7.35m, he would have fetched a better return. It also doesn't help the Sabres were clearly in a position they HAD to trade him.

They were only in the position where they HAD to move him because they put themselves in that position. And Pettersson has only two years left at that rate, and as you said, he's going to get much more than that. There is no way he returns this package at this point.

Let me ask you this: what do you think is so insanely valuable about anything the Wild are sending over that them getting a franchise 1C wouldn't be worth losing? A streaky winger who at times can be a gamebreaker but lately has been more of a turnover machine who doesn't seem to have a great relationship with the coach? A power forward who hasn't seem to figure out he's 6'6" 225 lbs on his 4th full season in the league? A center prospect who if you're insanely lucky becomes even a fraction of the player Petterson is? A 1st round pick that right now is pick #24? None of these things are irreplaceable assets if you're getting back a player like Petterson.

All of those things are more valuable than a center who isn't very good at center (hence why Miller has been playing the middle) and whose production is going the wrong way (less than a 40 point pace now, I believe?) and who's a big part of the current "culture issues" in Vancouver right now, with questions about his effort level and commitment, that will want more money than we can afford in two years.

Except for Greenway. He won't be a big loss.
