Is it worth the risk

Description
I would love to add Kane the player, but I do not really want Kane the person.. after all, there is a reason he is on waivers. The Penguins have been good this season, but the top 6 has been a little inconsistent in my eyes. Kane would allow us to upgrade that top 6 without moving any futures. I would love someone like J.T. Miller for example, but cannot see us giving up high picks and anyone in our prospect pool, which is very limited. Kane would obviously be a huge addition. His PIM also dropped significantly last season, which can only be a positive.
I think adding a 30+ goal scorer like Kane on Crosby or Malkin's wing would be amazing, but is it worth taking the risk of having off-ice issues, which can potentially ruin chemistry.
Obviously, if this was to happen, the Penguins need to get rid of cap. The obvious choice is Zucker, who is making $5.5M. I think the Pens ask SJS to retain half and send Zucker their way.
Is it worth the risk?

I think our leadership group is strong. Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Carter.. you even got higher ups like Lemieux who are part of the org.

Doubt San Jose wants to take back a horrible contract like zucker and eat half of Kane’s salary. Maybe Kane with like 1m retained for zucker so sj doesn’t really have to pay any extra money

I think the money would have to cancel out at least.. Zucker is a top 6 replacement for San Jose as they are still pushing for playoffs. He only has one more year after this one and can easily be flipped during the offseason.

Gotta think the Sharks would rather just buyout Kane next summer, then take on Zucker's 5.5m contract. and the 3.5m retention.

He’s not top 6 and we aren’t making the playoffs. Has to be less than half retention if the sharks are taking Zucker back or they will be over the cap.

Zucker can be moved in the offseason if anything. Buying out Kane honestly doesnt make sense.. it would be 3.66, 2.66, 4.66, and then 1.66 for 3 years, whereas a retention would be 3.5 for 3 years, so they are saving money on 5/6 years. Not trading him this season also means they have around 5.9M just sitting in the AHL. I honestly think there are teams who would take 1 year of Zucker at 5.5M and give SJ a return..

I checked, and at 50%, you guys still have cap if some guys are placed on LTIR and extras are sent down.

Absolutely not. We should not be paying for E. Kane. Not at that contract. Even at 50% retention that contract sucks for the type of dbag and locker room cancer he is. Not worth it. Unless the sharks add like 5 unprotected 1st round picks, the pens should stay far away.

Nobody will go on LTIR though, even with players sent down they are over by more than $500,000. Sharks could easily retain $2.75 mil and be under

Knyzhov on LTIR, Reedy and Gregor down and the cap is fine.

Knyzhov is supposed to be back, that’s the point I’m trying to make

Middleton can be sent down then.. they could defo afford it for this season, move Zucker in the offseason if they really dont like him and only have 3 years at 3.5M instead of 6 years of a buyout.
