Dont rebuild

Description
Regardless of who's the new GM (my money is on Darche or Madden), don't rebuild.

On offense, Habs need a top 6 C to replace Danault. On the wings they are awesome. Don't touch it. Everyone hoped Dvorak would replace Danault, but he's not. He replaced KK (as in both are inconsistent at either end of the ice, although Dvorak is solid on faceoffs).

If Horvat really is on the market. Give whatever it takes imo to get him with the exceptions of Suzuki, Caufield, and the Habs 2022 1st rd pick. Horvat wouldn't just be Danault's replacement, but an improvement. Not to mention seeing him and Toffoli playing together would be awesome.

Still sell at the deadline (Chiarot, Kulak, etc.), and look to improve the defense in the offseason.

Hopefully once Edmundson returns he can knock Petry on his noggin and wake him from from the coma he's been in since the start of the season...

I know you said plus a draft pick but that's really not an attractive offer for Horvat.

Could be a 1st in 2023 (lottery protected), would be willing to replace Poehling with Evans.

There's a reason I put Harris first on the Habs side of the deal. He's probably the Habs most valuable prospect not in the pros at the moment.

Canucks decline. Not shopping Horvat and that deal is very unappealing. Many other teams could do better

Horvat gets a first, an A prospect and probably a decent roster player, maybe more given the high interest in him. The Habs can't/won't make a deal like that. This one isn't even close to that....

I think Lehkonen fits the "decent roster player", and I've said I'd include a 1st. So the issue here is the A prospect. Poehling is definitely not that, and I'd put Harris more in the B level. So am I really that far off?

        I wouldn't say you're that far off.

A future first is definitely harder to swallow than this year's though. Then there's so the issue of finding an A prospect

Given that an "A" RD prospect is probably the lynchpin in any trade the Canucks make to move out any of their premium pieces, I would say yes. Also this years and next years first won't be on the table for the Habs....how could it?? So again, yes.

        Sens offer

        Erik Brannstrom (LD)
        Lassi Thomson (RD)
        1st round pick in 2023

Of course, would need an extension for Horvat

Note : since I always say trade for D-men and not forwards, after acquiring Horvat, I'd go after a young veteran RD using some picks and forward prospects

Horvat is overrated and will most likely be overvalued on the UFA market and signed to a stupid deal. Tbh I’d take Danault at 5.5 over Horvat at wtv the hell he ends up getting anyday
