Is value right

Created by: NYR1983
Team: 2021-22 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 29, 2021
Published: Nov. 29, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Only way to keep him long term is with retention and I feel like he is that “gritty” type of guy they have been adding. He has had good playoff runs and could be a valuable post season player who also could be a solid bet for the young 3rd line.

I feel like the retention makes it too in favor of NYR.

I think this return makes it worth considering retaining

Who would you target with that package instead?

Probably would do that for a 2C but Toffoli hasn't always put up numbers like he did In MTL last season. It was an outlier year for the most part.

Buying high is risky.

6.4M of retention over 3 years is what 1/2 of the compensation is for. Considering our cap situation moving forward. Our 1st should be 24-32OA and Kravs is probably worth about the same.

It's a huge overpayment for a guy that doesn't kill penalties, doesn't play C, and doesn't win faceoffs. That's what they need in the playoffs.

Well he’s a gritty RW which we need and ya he obviously doesn’t take faceoffs and while we need that, it will be harder to come by than you may think and that only solves the problem for a playoff run and then we probably lose strome to add to it. Kill penalties, why do we need that, we have it already.. we have more than enough guys that do it. Winning faceoffs is going to require major disruption to the roster by moving Zibby or Strome out which might be a bad idea but may work out. Not like this guy has won cups in the past or just helped lead MTL to the finals 🤷🏻‍♂️

19th in PK with shesterkin standing on his head
30th in faceoffs

It doesn't require moving Strome or Zibanejad, just taking their pk time, some defensive coverages and some defensive zone draws. Benefits the Rangers during those times, and keeps the top 2Cs fresh.

So what PK specialists that play C and win 52%+ faceoffs are out there and available?

Are you still working on that short list? Lol

That’s my point precisely, what we need most isn’t available and if or when that becomes available there will be 18 teams looking to acquire it. But I would love to have that top pk and faceoff C if he is out there
