Description
Boston needs a top 4 LHD. Dermott has looked like he could be one in the past and might still develop there. He's got good term remaining as an RFA. DeBrusk is a top 6 LW who has fallen off, hoping he could be again. He's a 1 year rental with that near 5 mil QO next season. Mikheyev as a replacement winger for the Bruins with upside and a pick for retention.

Ritchie LTIRed to signify a move somewhere else.

Won't get much more for a rental on a disappointing winger with an unreasonable QO.

i was literally just gonna comment how about switch dermott for holl. 3rd pair RHD is what we need. since we probably wont acquire a top LHD

I'm not against that. I just had left d specified as a weak spot by a Bruins fan.

1. He’s under team control, so not exactly a rental.
2. Is ritchie hurt?
3. Bruins need a LD? Well, i sort of agree with that, but Dermott probably doesn’t crack the lineup.

He should have been traded before the season started.

He can want out all he wants, he has no leverage.

Absolutely. Thinking it would a good value deal for both sides and both teams get what they need with DeBrusk getting a change of scenery.

I think Holl would be a good fit with Grz tbh

1) DeBrusk has a 4.8 million qualifying offer next season. No one is going to offer him that. He's as good as a UFA.
2) Read the description
3) Dermott would be the 2nd best LD you have.

ya know that is a weakness i just believe grzz is quite a lot better then dermott. dermott doesn't outbeat forbort in terms of shot blocking and physicality which we need. i personally like reillys game so ill be a little biased when it comes to choosing him and zboril has actually emerged to a pretty good dman lately so if bruins were looking for a LHD it would be a lindholm caliber one as we already have the LHD depth for 2nd and 3rd pairing but holl gives us that great 3rd pair RHD. no knock against dermott just for where he would be slotted we already have 3-4 guys who already fit that spot

Ahhhhh I’m not sure about that. Dermott isn’t anything special. Going after an upgrade is one thing. Making a lateral move for the sake of making a lateral move doesn’t seem advisable.

No one is taking ritchie.

A team that doesn’t have an abundance of cap restrictions could absolutely qualify him. The guy has been a high end goal scorer in this league in the past. I don’t think it’s a thoroughly wild scenario to imagine him catching on somewhere in a top six role and getting some of that back. A 20 goal guy gets qualified.

The problem is that toronto is just about the worst fit in the national hockey league for this trade.

i would like that a lot more if grzz was bottom pair with holl it allows him to use his strengths more. grzz is good defensively but his size and strength hinders him from being able to matchup against the tkachuks, ovi, wilson etc. with reilly or zboril or forbort with chucky and carlo we can now utilize our first 2 pairings more against those bigger more skilled guys. the only time i wanna see grzz with mcavoy is against the mackinnon, barzal, mcdavid types as then grzz's good zone coverage and speed help out more

And even if DeBrusk manages to have a miracle turn around to put up 20 goals in the 3/4 of the season thats left, the Bruins don't get value in the trade of it. Bruins right now have a disappointing winger who probably won't be qualified. That is what they are trading.

False.

If Debrusk puts up his normal season 4.8 is the going rate. And if he wants term, which he does, he has to turn it down and then it does not matter anyway.

Dermott would be LD4 in Boston.

Zboril has been playing very well since being put into the lineup, won’t surprise me if he ends up on first pair soon.
Reilly and Forbort are not getting benched for their specific needs. Neither is Grizz.

What?
First off, i would hardly call that miraculous. A guy that scored 27 in 68 puts up 17 in 60ish…miraculous? Really?

Second, i just have no idea what you’re talking about with bruins getting value for this? What does that have to do with anything? He isn’t UFA. Might be not be qualified? Sure, but he’s a pending RFA until otherwise informed.

Bottom line, a toronto trade for debrusk is just every kind of illogical.

Again, if DeBrusk manages to have a a miracle turn around and redeem himself over the 3/4 of the season thats left, it still isn't what the Bruins are trading. The asset you are trading is a winger who has been disappointing for multiple seasons now, moved down your lineup and probably won't be qualified.

He's a pending UFA until otherwise informed. In his state right now and over the past 2 seasons, he won't be qualified. That might see an unlikely change, or 'otherwise informed' as you would put it, but its still not what you are trading. You are trading a pending UFA, not an RFA with term.

The team has the ability to retain his rights. He is not UFA. Period.

Regardless, horrid fit. I think we can all move on and discuss locations for debrusk that could actually make some sense.

If a team doesn't qualify someone, he is a UFA. Right now, there isn't a shot in hell the Bruins will qualify him which is why we see him wanting a trade. You can be as semantic as you want but for all intents and purposes, DeBrusk is a pending UFA.

Again false, he disappointed last year. He also was dealing with repercussions from a concussion, a pair of injuries to start the year, caught COVID, had his strength zapped, depression, forced to play off wing where he sucks, got demoted after getting Hall. Frankly I’d been surprised had he not struggled.

He’s been playing pretty solid this year just no breaks. He’s backchecking, something he’s never really done, forechecking, playing hard, even killed a few penalties.

Hey I’m aware of how the league works.
That is not why debrusk wants a trade.
When discussing a guy who a team can qualify as an RFA, they’re viewed as a pending RFA. If you just want to start inventing your own terminology, that’s fine, but you’re going to have a lot of confusing conversations.

Do they have evenings on whatever planet you’re on? If so, have a good evening.
