In what way? Lindell is overpaid and has basically been replaced by Suter who is playing much better. Harley is on the way and could slot into the top 4 no problem. DeBrusk would be a nice add with Pavelski and Radulov likely not coming back next year.

Disagree. Stars are overpaying here. Is Lindell overpaid? Yes. Is he still a top-4 LD? Yes. Trading a good (not great), shutdown, top-4 LD & a bottom-6 winger for another bottom-6 winger (DeBrusk) & a bottom pair LD (Zboril) doesn't make sense for Dallas, especially when you take into account the good amount of cap space they have past this season.

Lindell is a Top-4 D in Dallas and with that coaching staff. IMO and based on what he is on the ice, he is a third pair D.

Lindell looked OK in the past because he was elevated by Klingberg and now by Miro.

He is a highly overrated D and this will continue in time with the league continuing to get faster and younger.

We should jump on any opportunity to get rid of that contract…If we can since Nill gave a NMC to Lindell. Why did he do that is beyond me.

I wouldn't say DeBrusk is a bottom 6 guy. He scored 27 goals not too long ago and I think that if he played a top 6 role in Dallas, get him with a guy like Seguin, who knows? This also opens up a spot for Harley to come in.

He's got the 2nd highest relative CF% among Stars defensemen, 2nd highest relative FF% among Stars defensemen, and goalies have a higher SV% when he's on the ice than when any other defenseman is on the ice. Saying he is "highly overrated" isn't accurate. Is he worth his $5.8M cap hit? No, but he's not a $2M defenseman either. If you look at what the going rate for a 2nd pair LD is (which he is), he's overpaid by MAYBE $800K.

I'm not the biggest Lindell fan. I think Dallas should have tried to trade him before his NMC kicked in, but he's not worth peanuts & his value actually increased last season & into this season. You're trying to sell him at the price he was at 2-3 years ago & he's improved pretty significantly since then, regardless of who his on-ice partner has been.

Did his stats improved this year because of him or because he is now paired with Miro?

The same thing happened last year with Oleksiak.

I would expect my Top 4 D to be able to skate out of the zone once in a while with the puck, be able to pass the puck on the tape in zone exit and to be able to shoot with some kind of accuracy and strength.

My grandma would have nice stats playing with Miro. And now (and again) we are underutilizing the extreme potential of Miro by pairing him with Lindell.

Miro is having a Norris season with him. Can you imagine if he was paired with a better partner?

Just observe how often Lindell is just giving the puck to Miro in our zone. At the very least, he understand that this is the best chance to exit with possession.

Lindell is a fine D but you are never going to sell him to me as a legit Top 4 on a good to elite team. With Dallas and with that HC, he is the number 2 D.

I mean, the stats I provided are individual stats & even so they improved last year when he was still playing with Klingberg.

Lindell has never been the type to carry the puck in or out of a zone. He wasn't that player with Klingberg & he's not that player with Heiskanen. He's a stay at home defenseman who's going to limit the other team's shot generation & shot selection, both things he does pretty well.

Erik Karlsson is the perfect example of an elite puck moving, play driving defensemen being able to play freely knowing that he's got a good stay-at-home partner (Marc Methot) that can allow him to play aggressively. You say "imagine if he was paired with a better partner", I say that Lindell's skillset allows Heiskanen to play as aggressively as he has been so far this season, hence the Norris-caliber play that we hadn't seen until this season.

Again, Lindell is not the guy that is going to carry the puck out of the zone. You could have Colton Parayko on a pair with Heiskanen & he's not carrying the puck. You can count the number of defensemen on two hands that you'd want carrying the puck more than Heiskanen. This isn't a knock on Lindell. This is a compliment to Heiskanen.

I'm not trying to tell you that he's an elite top-4 shutdown defenseman. I'm simply saying that he's a perfectly fine shutdown 2LD that is being paid a little bit more than market value would dictate.

Can you imagine the return we could have had for him before his NMC kicked in if, and only if, another GM saw him as you see him?
