Description
I dont know, different ideas.....

Holl for Chiarot is a downgrade, Chiarot can play both sides, more physical and reliable, but the pick and the extra year of the defensively sound Holl seems to even it out

Hoffman, for his production is not on a bad salary, but getting a youngster who needs a change of scenery and two late 3rds sounds fair

Savard is a disappointment and Byron is done, JVR in a rut, but reliable 20+ goal scorer, big body on PP sounds fair. Philly is able to use Savard to pair with Cam York next year and probably finds it easier to have 2 salaries at 7mil than 1, with byron probably dumped or bought out

Pittsburg is going for it in 21-22, as their key players are aging and UFA looms and kulak/pacquette are great depth for them as they go into playoffs. (Pettersen was the PITTS whipping boy the last 2 years)

Monahan was a 1C or 2C and on the outs in CGY and maybe he can fix the C position here, Armia and RFA youngster Lehkonen seem fair with a solid 3rd rounder thrown in

Petry for Barrie and a 2nd. Time for a change, Petry has big salary and long term. Barrie is a puck rushing RD, productive and signed long term as well for less.

Just look at the roster and thought that with the plethora of picks, its a good time to take a wild swing and go for an offensively talented center man like Morgan Frost. (He's over injuries and played great in AHL, still young and a cheap re-sign). In NHL the last few games, hes looked really electric (albeit playing with struggling stiffs). For the cost of a low 2nd and low 3rd hes worth the gamble

I dont know...clearing out some older and costly guys, making space and cap room for younger guys

I don't really have a problem with the TOR trade, may need a little retention from MTL's side.

This isn't what MTL should be doing at all. Sell anyone you can for picks, the higher the better, retain if needed and play the youth as much as possible. Tank should be the key word for the next two years for this management.

Only way this team gets to be a contender is by adding multiple high end prospects, if luck goes out way and we get Bedard out of it then we can start looking to turn the corner

Yeah just a thought.....Monahan could be effective, was a good 1C and 2C with good goal scoring hands, good size, and maybe a good re-sign after 22-23 with the quality wingers and a playmaker like Drouin.

To me, Lehkonen is a goner in 22-23, hes already making good coin and I think the team can get a better two way guy than re-sign him at 2.5mil+. We've seen what he offers, and offensively its not all that much.

As far as Armia, nice team guy, but quality 27-31 yr old wingers: we have plenty. Maybe adding the 3rd is too much?

If Monahan doesn;t work out, or Poehling/Frost are ready, then we move him elsewhere

We don't even need Bedard. Michkov will do too.

The leafs dont want chariot, he's a slow liability qho doesn't bring anything at all. Holl might be having a rough year, but replacing him with someone who is worse at everything that isnt crosschecking people or screening his goalkeeper and then adding a sdcond would be a terrible move for the leafs

Going to be bad for a couple years so I wouldn't be mad at that result. Next couple draft years are likely a lot better then the last four so it will hopefully work out for the Habs if it goes the right way

Maybe, I just dont know if theres much left that other teams want. And guys like Perreault or Evans bring negliable return, so I didn;t bother. Put it this way, Price still has the goods but I doubt any team touches him at 10.5mil for 5 yrs. Guys like Anderson or Toffoli or Edmundson might bring you back some good prospects/picks, but I do think you need quality guys like that with the kids. Is Suzuki or Caulfield there yet? I think you have to have a mix and the great thing about those vets is that they are pretty hard working, heart and soul, and aren't huge salaries and signed through their optimum career years and key development period of the youngsters

As far as youth, the team above has 5 young forwards and 2 young dmen, and I dont know if you bring more on in 22-23, theres not the development, coaching or ice time to bring them all on too soon and all together. 7-8 youngsters, guided by quality vets in 22-23, add 2-3 more in 23-24.

To me it's trade Lehkonen and Chairot this deadline, both likely get a 2nd minimum, MP, CP and guys like that trade if you get an offer. It's next off season where you shop Toffoli and Drouin for what's likely a 1st + on each, Byron if you retain 50% likely gets you a pick.

After that you can look at the market for Savard if the youth pushes him out by 2023.

In the end it's Price, Gallagher, Petry, Caufield and Suzuki as your remaining core with Poehling, Ylonen, Norlinder getting full time minutes and welcoming in whatever prospect they pick in the top 10 in 2022, 2023

Hawks just don't have the room to take on $4.5M in cap hit for a player that sees more goals against then goals for when on the ice. A stat that seems to have followed him all the way back to his days in Ottawa unless recently changed this season.
