Description
Assume most departures were traded for assets at the previous deadline.

The Necas trade is a tough one. I was looking for a good young player to become the 2C, remembered Necas is Czech, and immediately jumped to a full Czech mafia second line. The thing is, I don't know what the value should be. I took back some cap with Gardiner (I'm not sure what his status is for next season) so hopefully this would be a way for Carolina to clear some space to make a bigger move. Necas would rightfully be getting a raise and Gardiner may or may not make his way back onto the roster, so the cap relief is my justification for Carolina to consider this trade proposal.

Again, tell me if the value is off. I tried to give the Canes pieces they may need, such as Rasmussen to eventually replace Staal, and Erne to add some more talent to the bottom six. Viro is the prospect added on here, I feel like he could be a good fit for Carolina, arrival time is probably around 2024. Second and fourth are the draft picks, I wouldn't mind giving up a first rounder but I wouldn't really want to either.

Also I know Necas isn't really a practiced center, but he has the ability to become one, I believe in him. If it fails, so what, Suter is there to pick up the slack.

Canes cap space isn’t so bad that we are trading high quality piece for bunch of quantity. Canes have a ton of bottom 6 pieces, plus some waiting in the minors.

Thanks for the input. What would need to be changed to get Necas? He's the big target here so that's the only constant in this deal.

Canes don't even consider that.

Literally, nothing the Wings have will get you Necas outside of Veleno++ or Seider/Raymond which the Wings won't part with. In reality, you're looking at Veleno+++. And Necas isn't a C. He's not played C in the NHL for 3 years now

Basically any piece that doesn’t have a chance at being a top 6 player needs to be changed. Canes wouldn’t include Necas in a deal for Laine or Eichel. Its going to have to be an overpayment of quantity of quality

Thanks for the input (especially on the center bit), but would it really take Seider or Raymond? They're both performing just as well, if not better than Necas at younger ages right now. I know Necas is a good asset, but we're not talking about Aho or Svechnikov here. Necas is a young top 6 forward, and I'm willing to pay good assets for him, but not players that I value more than Necas himself. Would Veleno and one of the Wings' D prospects like Johansson or Wallinder work? Those two are looking great in the SHL and could already be top 4 caliber by 2023, so I'd say one of them and Veleno (maybe + a pick) is the highest I'd go for Necas.

You're confusing what you'd be willing to give up and what the Canes would want. What you're willing to give up is completely irrelevant. Why would the Canes trade one of their core pieces for anything less than that?

Carolina is currently a Stanley Cup contender with the cap space to bring back most of their roster next year (Nino aside). There's no need for them to move their premier right-winger. Necas is also a FANTASTIC skater, and one of the best in the league. He took longer to develop, sure, but he's also better than Raymond and Sieder right now. Carolina does not care what happens in 5 years. They want a cup in the next 2-3 years. Carolina has no need to move the Czech forward, so it's going to require a MAJOR overpay.

They wouldn't move Necas for Laine or Eichel, to put this into perspective. It's going to need to be THAT big an overpay

Right now, Necas is untouchable for the Canes. He wasn’t being considered by the canes in a package for Eichel or Laine, so it will have to be a big package to pry him out of Carolina. If anything, Canes would be looking at players who play roles that are a organizational need/weakness. That would be RHD and wingers, mainly LW for the wingers but RW who can play LW is useful as well.

Look at Necas. He is an exceptional skater, one of the best in the league. He is also defensively responsible. You are already looking at a high price for that skill set.

Look at it this way. Necas is a fan favorite in Carolina, and he has a high skill level to go along with that. With how much value he holds to the Canes alone, you are looking at Seider, and a first rounder, maybe more. I might say Raymond might be a better alternative to Seider, as we would replace a winger that we would lose, but in short, Necas isn’t being traded, so you can get that thought out of your head.
