Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Wont let me do a 3 team deal but I would be in favor for this with Kane at 1.75M. If kane can get his act together this could be a steal for the wild with the Cap hell coming up, if not I dont think a buyout on a 1.75M deal is too tough of a pill to swallow either

I don't think Kane will ever have his act together. People have been saying "If he can get his act together..." for years, still hasn't happened and he's already 30.

I want nothing to do with the guy.

What is your obsession with kane? He's a cancer in a bad way and a winger, and horrible contract

This is extremely confusing...

What does Arizona get for retaining 4 x $1.75?

2 6th rounders, I doubt SJS would decline, they dont want anything to do with Kane or the 7m, they will have to pay to get rid of him

Kane at 1.75M is not a bad deal at all, guy is a good hockey player. A strong leadership group can put him in line if not can bury him for a year then buy him out.
Kane has had 206 points in his last 270 games, The guy can flat out play NHL hockey, getting a guy that puts up 20-30 goals a year and 40-60 points a year and who is tough at 1.75M is worth the flier. Kane the last 120 games (2020-2021) 48G 48A 96Pts 164Pims, 232 Hits. Fiala last 114 games (2020-2021) 43G 51A 94 Pts, 85 Pims 52 Hits. So you basically get JT Miller and replace Fiala with Kane and you upgrade you Center position and you get a guy that has produced at the same rate as fiala and who is tougher for 1/5th of the cap hit, no brainer from me. Only thing that holds this back is Kanes off the ice issues.

So ARI gets nothing for taking on salary? Sure they aren't trying right now but there has to be something go to them of value.

Considering AZ has 50M in cap space next year, any extra salary retention helps them get to the floor. Can make them 4th or 5th round picks if it matters that much, not a huge difference between 5th and 6th round.

Two 6th rounders for paying Kane $4.75 mil in actual cash? Have we all missed Arizona's financial hardships or something tears of joy

i think it would be 6.5M over next 4 years. 4M in Signing Bonuses +22M in base salary =26M. SJS eat 13m of it, then wild and AZ eat 6.5 each. Which is not terrible and comes out to less than his cap hit would be over the 4 years.

Sorry, I was just going off the next 3 years, and wasn't including this...I guess my point, be it $4.75 mil, or $6.5 mil, I can't see why Arizona would have any interest in eating that if the return is only 2 x 6th round picks.

Because the actual money being paid is less than the cap hit. Thus they get to save an extra 125K per year for retaining rather than paying that out to somebody in actual money. AZ did a similar thing in the Datsyuk trade, where Red wings gave up the #16 Overall and Datsyuk for #20, #53 and Joe Vitale i think? So it was basically #16 for #20 and 53 then the 1.1 Cap hit for the 7.5M cap hit but 5 million in actual money.

I guess my point is that it's still actual money, for two picks that have a less than 1% chance of actually ever playing for the Yotes. You're essentially paying $4.75-$6.5 mil (Whichever) to get a couple of picks in the 160-170ish range, if not lower.

Alternatively, you're eating a guy like Ladd, paying the same amount or less in actual dollars, and getting back 2 x 2nd+3rd. That's a pretty significant difference, especially in a market where a ton of teams are sitting right at the cap.

I just think there's better ways to pick up cap out there. This is a mini move, that costs them in the long run.

AZ also took on 8 million in real money and 5m a year in cap for this year and next. And the 3rd round pick is gone if he plays at all next year. The 5m for a cap strapped team is MUCH more significant than 1.75M, even if the wild are cap strapped. If the wild made it a 4th rounder and a 6th rounder from SJS would you think it's bad for AZ still? How much draft capital would it cost for AZ to pick up 1.75M of cap?

My understanding is that it was actually only $5 mil total, as the signing bonus was already paid. They also got an actual roster player, which seems like a smart move.

Consider that Columbus got a 4th for retaining 50% on David Savard last year, which, considering that there was about 40% of the season left at the deadline, works out to around $800 k.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are better ways to get to the cap floor than doing favours that are basically free for other teams.

Realistically, I think we're probably wasting our breaths here anyway...I'd say the chances of anything happening with Kane besides a buyout are near-zero. Even taking him on for cheap over 3-4 seasons is a pretty risky proposition. If I were a rich man, I'd bet a good amount of money that he'll get bought out, and sign a 1 year "I promise I can be a good boy!" contract.
