Is Strome A Lazy Entitled Player

Description
There has been a lot of debate on this site between Hawks fans and Leaf fans once again, this time about Dylan Strome. I decided to bring the discussion to Reddit to see what their users think of the situation, and the majority of Erie, Yotes and Hawks fans say that he has the tools to be an effective player, but he is very lazy and entitled. For example, he never goes into the boards to win a puck battle, never moves his legs away from the puck. I think if that's the case, it's going to be especially hard for CHI to try and get value for him because these are the worst types of players to deal with. He's not underdeveloped or lacking skill, he's just lazy.

Who said anything about “elite”? I don’t think anybody has argued that. But he can absolutely be a 50/60 point pivot, and has been. All the while being a terrible skater with no physicality.

This mentality about “complete” players is coaches not understanding comparative advantage and instead ruining weapons in the name of tradition. It’s precisely what Evason is doing to Fiala in MIN.

Yeah I guess Fiala is a good example of not playing up to his potential due to poor usage.

I'd personally like to swap Dach to wing and Strome to center. Neither of them can win a face off, but this is just another fail by the Hawks to me. Don't get me wrong I love the Hawks, but I just think they're wrong.

At least with Dach, we can hold optimism that he can improve. Whilst Strome is still young at 24, his status as a prospect is in the past. I do agree though that I would like to see Strome centre that line with the Cat and move Dach to the wing. I don't think it would be detrimental in his development. It could help his offence. I just hope he keeps training with Toews to learn the art of face-offs.

LOL Reddit is not exactly a good place to get factual information

He is not lazy or entitled. Quiet guy who keeps to himself and works hard training. He is a perfectionist and thoroughly loves the game of hockey.

I admit I was surprised to see all these Reddit users make these types of comments cuz all of the other platforms seems to be more sympathetic towards him. He is from my hockey community and I never heard anything like that about him. But I do think if there is an area for him to improve, it would be to play more physical. Cuz he’s a big guy who’s not fast, I think if he was more willing to finish his checks he’d start getting more appreciate & better usage.

So it's the chicken and egg to most, but there really is a start imo. As someone who has followed this saga through it all...I believe it starts is with management. He's a center. He came to the Hawks and scored 51 points in 58 games...as a center. The reason Stan traded for him was because the Hawks were short center depth. So Schmaltz for Strome looked good. THEN we win the lottery and get Dach. That's no one's fault. In fact a good thing! We can debate until the cows come home about Dach vs Byram. Let's just leave that be for now. NOW the Hawks deepest positions are center and LD. So, they try Strome at wing. He struggled. He never played wing. Then he gets injured at wing and sits. He TECHNICALLY still scored roughly at the 51pt in 58 game pace that bubble year...when he was a center, but management still said no. Even this spring training. Jeremy Coliton and Stan sent him down to the prospects side of scrimmages vs the Pros when he played center. They never once let him attempt to be a #2C. It was Tyler Johnson and Toews. Strome is NOT a 2-way center. That's not a slight. It's just knowing who you are. He's a Power Play offensive dynamic player. It's ironicly exactly what the Hawks lack right now, BUT YET AGAIN. He can't even get ice time. It's actually quite embarrassing.

Yeah that’s tough, I guess there are faults from all parties. Strome hasn’t made improvements to his skating weakness and lack of physicality, but even without those elements he’s still a really good play driver but the front office won’t acknowledge it and give him better usage. I feel if he goes to TOR under Keefe, this can all be fixed.

Strome is much better at the dot then Dach. This season he's 54%, last two seasons 47%...both very respectable. Dach on the other hand is 30% which is purely a liability. I agree, no reason not to play Strome at center and Dach on the wing. Not winning faceoffs and controlling possession is a massive problem.

By no means do I think Strome is lazy, but he needs a fresh start on a new team. His trade value is low, so the best the Hawks will get in return is another underperforming forward or d-man.
