They had a few in Nylander, Marner & Galchenyuk whom they were able to develop into pretty effective ones.

When was Marner ever considered a lazy player?

Galchenyuk's best seasons happened well before he became a Leaf.

Costs more than a 3rd for us to take ritche. And probably costs that 3rd for us to retain half. So no way this happens. We're better off waiving him and not taking essentially a 4 mil deal cap hit.

Well, before this winning streak, it seemed to be general consensus that Marner was a lazy entitled player by Leafs fans.

I wouldn't call it a consensus. More vocal doesn't equal the majority. Also, no one was calling him lazy.

Maybe don't get your information from fans who call for Keefe/Dubas' heads after the Leafs go on a 2 game losing streak.

That's fair. I just remember the narrative that Marner was scared to go into the corners prior to this season and it seems like he has changed his game. I would still pick up Strome because I think even as incomplete as a player that he currently is, he is still great at scoring chance impact. Doing some work with Keefe, he could be a monster.

Well how would "scared to go in the corner" = lazy?

Marner isn't a grinder. First season, last season, this season - it's not his game to go hard in to the corners and win puck battles. Nothing has changed in that aspect.

Him, Nylander, Matthews think the game better than most and can anticipate where/when to knock down passes or strip the puck from the opposition. Sometimes they can have an off night, and look that engaged, but aside from Z. Hyman, almost every player in the league has an off-game now and then.

I wouldn't say Marner has played more physical this year in terms of hitting, but I've noticed him be more aggressive in stripping loose pucks from the board battles.
