Okay sorry for laughing but you have to be trolling right? Vancouver gets a good 2nd liner and a decent 2nd pairing Defencemen for… their Franchise Centre? ?? And they have to ADD. A 1st??

They are conditional picks, max going back to wild is a 2024 1st, and thats if both re-sign, if one of them re-signs its a 2nd, VAN could turn around and trade both of them for 1sts if they wanted to.

You can't do picks conditional upon guys signing extensions.

Would love to see the argument behind Fiala being a 2nd liner.

0.595 PPG is 2nd line production. Bo Horvat has a better PPG you gonna tell me he's a 1st liner?

Drop both picks going to MIN and its a lot closer. I still think VAN would decline though. Fiala and Dumba are good players but only really have 2 years of team control. When Pettersson is on his game he is significantly better than both of those guys and has 4 years of team control

Surely you're not looking at entire career production as if that's a valid indication of the level of player he is now?

Yeah the condition being that the Canucks re-sign the players they trade their franchise centre for. Or should they just let them both walk and come out of the trade with nothing at all?

I’d say he is in the top 30% percent or so of forwards in the NHL. Scores at a good clip, generates offense well. Seems like a guy every team would love to have. But he’s not Pettersson. He’s a really good 2nd liner.

Yeah I'm looking for the argument to be made. Your baseless opinion is pretty worthless here because I've done the research and seen the numbers and they don't say "2nd line forward"

I can play this game too.

Elias Pettersson is at .478 PPG this season. Therefore Fiala for Pettersson is actually an overpayment.

Okay I looked it up. Evolving-Hockey had him in the 74th percentile last year for forwards. Meaning 1/4 of the forwards in the league were better than him based on their GAr/xGAR rankings.

Fiala’s 0.8 ppg last year ranked him 69th (nice) in the league amongst forwards. He would have been 4th amongst Canucks forwards in points per game. This is really good 2nd line level production by a really good 2nd line level player.

At BEST he is a border line 1st line forward but at this point it’s just semantics

Another one, Fiala last 2 years is at .77PPG and has played in 92% of his teams games, whereas EP the last 2 years is at .65PPG and has only played in 62% of his teams games. More PPG and he plays in more games, seems like BG is giving VAN a gift.

2019-2021

TOI/GP (5v5)

G/60

Boeser: 0.72

P/60

Fiala: 3.2
Boeser: 1.1

xSPAR

Boeser: 2.1

g/GP
Fiala: 0.34
Boeser: 0.33

p/GP
Fiala: 0.81
Boeser: 0.78

Most Common Linemates
Fiala: Parise, Koivu, Johansson, Hartman, Bonino, Gaudreau, Hartman
Boeser: Pettersson, Miller, Hoglander

Since 2019-20, Fiala has the same output as Boeser despite less time, which means he scores at a higher rate. He drives play better and creates better offensive opportunities for himself and his linemates. He has a more positive impact on the game and contributes more to team success. He does all of this despite having significantly worse linemates.

The two teams have had similar PP% during that time, and Fiala and Boeser produce similar output (total points) on the PP as well, despite the fact that Boeser has averaged 1:03 more on the PP per game during that time. That means he gets 38% more PP time than Fiala does, and produces the same number of points on an equally competent power play.

This has been really fun, let's do it again some time.
