Gorton and ___ GM Go Nuclear Rebuild

Created by: habs12345
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 30, 2021
Published: Nov. 30, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
See trades for reasoning behind them.

The biggest move here is trading Price away. After his stellar playoffs last year, if he can come back from his time in the player assistance program and from his injury and show that he is still a great goalie, it might be the right time to trade him.

Acquire a ton of draft capital. Put an expert scout/drafter (like Madden Jr.) in charge of this year's draft and try and hit a home run. Maybe trade up in the top 10 if there is a top target still on the board.

Players Not Traded:

- Gallagher: Unless he asks to leave, he is the next captain for this team. Keep him even if his contract will look bad in a year or two.
- Drouin: Not sure what kind of return he would get the Habs. Currently has the highest PPG of any Habs player.
- Anderson: Clearly a leader on and off the ice. Has been one of the most consistent forwards on the team this year.
- Dvorak: Not having the best season, but needed to maintain C depth.
- Toffoli: Much more productive than he is showing (last year was too high though). Now would be a bad time to trade him as his value is lower than it should be.
- Armia: No clue what his value would be. Not having a great season but has proven to be great in the playoffs. Contract is a bit excessive for his overall production though.
- Hoffman: Not sure if the team would be willing to trade him after just acquiring him. He's been pretty good thus far, and his contract is decent. Could get a decent return if they decide to trade him.
- Byron: Might be able to get an asset for him, but depends on how his return to play goes.
- Suzuki, Evans, Caufield: No need to explain.

- Savard: Didn't trade Savard because it is unlikely anyone takes his contract unless Habs pay them to. Maybe an offseason move but unsure if doable.
- Petry: Would have normally been worth alot. But with his horrendous play + new extension starting next year, he is not movable.
- Edmundson: An important leader on D, especially with most of the upcoming D being so young. Keeping him around.
- Romanov, Norlinder: No need to explain.

- Allen: Need a solid goalie to share the net with and mentor Primeau next year. Keep.
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Bouchard, Evan
  2. Holloway, Dylan
  3. Koskinen, Mikko
  4. 2022 1st round pick (EDM)
  5. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Chiarot, Ben
  2. Price, Carey ($5,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Reasoning here being that Price with 50% retained (4 more years after this season) plus taking Koskinen to make cap room gets you Bouchard + Holloway + 2nd. With the offence that EDM has, and adding Chiarot to their D core, they should be able to make a very strong push in the playoffs. Price is a playoff beast and would take them to the next level if healthy. This makes them a serious competitor for the Cup.

Chiarot gets you a 1st with the way he's been a playoff beast and has been scoring this year.
2.
MTL
  1. 2022 1st round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Lehkonen, Artturi
  2. 2022 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Lehkonen has been having a great year despite the Habs poor results. He also is a strong playoff performer and would add depth to a Washington team that is likely contending to come out of the East. Added a 4th from MTL to balance it out a bit. Might need to sweeten it a bit more on MTL side.
3.
MTL
  1. 2022 1st round pick (MTL)
ARI
  1. 2022 1st round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Habs draft in top 10 and therefore Arizona gets Carolina's 1st instead.
4.
MTL
  1. 2022 6th round pick (FLA)
  2. 2022 7th round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Paquette, Cédric
  2. Perreault, Mathieu
Additional Details:
Can be any playoff team looking to add a 12-13 forward for cheap.
Perreault gets a 6th, and Paquette a 7th.
5.
MTL
  1. 2022 4th round pick (CAR)
CAR
  1. Kulak, Brett
Additional Details:
Can be to any playoff bound team looking to add a 3rd pairing D to shore up their blueline.
6.
MTL
  1. 2022 4th round pick (BOS)
BOS
  1. Wideman, Chris
Additional Details:
Can be to any playoff bound team looking to add a 3rd pairing D to shore up their blueline with a bit more offence.

Why would the capitals pay a 1st for a player that at best would be our 5th-6th best winger? Lehkonen Might get you a 3rd? He’s maybe a minor upgrade to Sprong? Either way hard pass thats way too much for an average 3rd liner

Lol Oilers hang up the phone.
You cant even give that Price contract away.
Chiarot is statistically one of the worst D in the NHL and he got caved in in the playoffs.

It is a terrible trade offer, and Chiarot isn't a great defenceman, However - as someone who watched every second of the Canadiens last two playoffs, Chiarot did not get caved in in the playoffs, he excelled actually. However, not defending this awful, awful trade proposition.

for real doh, Price`s contract will be on LTIR in 2-3 years max. So not really an issue.

So we are giving up our number 1 D prospect and number 1 forward prospect for 2 years??? Why would any GM on the planet do that???
I guess time will tell if any GM or owner is stupid enough to take that contract and pay out 30 million.

I'm not defending the trade - I'm defending Price`s contract and retention.

Horrible. Do you need help reading this?
Also in the 30% corsi against the team that swept the oilers.
Look at that goals for and goals against, couldnt be any worse. Was he on the ice for every single goal against. Looks like it.
