I think this Girard trade is one of the best trades I've seen on here in a while it's a perfect fit for both teams and reasonable value, here's a trophy 4U 🏆

Too bad Leddy isn't RD but no big

Helps them not have to over expose byram early

The UFA signings are light. I think Klingberg gets 8, not 6.5 and Gaudreau probably gets more than 8.

I dont know if DET is a great destination in 22-23 though, even from the above roster you're adding 4 top 6 forwards and 3 of your 6 dmen. I dont know if UFAs flock to DET without all those moves happening. I think its going to be slower than that.

Can't believe someone already wants Hughes and his 8mil/8 yr contract.

With Seider and Hronek stabilizing the RD and then some they really shouldn't give kling a deal that could easily be an Okposo, lucic, neal, eriksson etc.

Especially with Girard so capable on the PP

This'll sound meh but re-signing stecher cheaply ftw

I disagree. I don’t think the Avs should trade girard at all, he can play the right and leddy for a year is ok, veleno is alright but has no immediate spot in the Avs lineup, and fabbri doesn’t really fit either. It’s not enough for a defenceman who is a great puckmover, who can play both sides on an amazing contract

This phase of Hughes career is likely his pre-prime

Very very likely

Funny mentioning klingberg initially at 8 with no issues, when he's almost certain to age decline during that deal, hughes almost certain to ascend

Hughes at 8 corsi rel last year as a 19y/o 😳

Easy to see him become an MVP level guy in prime

For COL, think a trade conversation would begin w/a young, proven top six winger (i.e. fwd version of Girard), and then the difference in contracts made up by prospects - i.e. begin w/a vaccinated Bertuzzi or healthy Vrana and then make up the contract differences. on the winged wheel podcast, they had initially thought DET could buy low on Girard and were excited, then they talked with industry folks who said Bertuzzi + ... and they became much less excited.

Au contraire. Very few teams wouldn't want that.

So Klingberg (29) and Gaudreau (28) are better $8 million investments than Hughes (20)?

They are more proven and have the production/stats to demand that type of money, and its also that they are UFAs hitting the big money. And yes next year and the season after that they are better investments, but certainly not in 5 years or more.

I get that Hughes is getting 8 mil on what he is likely to become. However with his point totals so far, he is not presently an 8 mil player in production. I would think he would have to double his current production to justify that.

IMO, he should've been down the 2-3 year 4-5.5 mil RFA contract with his big contract still coming

The points will come. His possession numbers, zone-entries, takeaways, penalties drawn, neutral zone rushes, passing efficiency, etc etc.
There are very few guys in NHL that could have done better in same spot.

True, I agree with that, I just don;t agree with paying somebody 8mil for 8 yrs based on 55 pts in 120 games. Not in my hands I know, but as I said I would've thought a 2-3 yr deal for 4mil, is more in line with his actual production AT THE MOMENT.
