I'm a Canucks fan, but man this is deeply flawed. First off, Wild aren't parting ways with Boldy. The Nashville deal is a huge overpayment by Vancouver, Boeser still has substantial value and Poolman's contract isn't as much of an anchor as some people make it out to be. Fabbro is valuable, but he's nothing compared to Boeser, and Cody Glass is more of a reclamation project rather than a prospect with potential now. Plus Rathbone shouldn't be in that deal whatsoever

As for the Motte trade, I can see some teams being desperate enough to be willing to give up a 2nd rounder for him, but I don't know how likely that is to happen. I can also see a scenario where Vancouver decides to re-sign Motte since he's such an important piece to their roster

Nobody is giving you a 2nd round pick for Motte. He is a replacement level forward making more than a million bucks. a 5th would be generous

You're not getting Boldy. Or Rossi.

I would push back on this, I think motte and a late rounder is worth a 2nd.

Not only is that trade an overpayment, but we also need Boldy more than we need Miller.

Explain to me why because all i see is

Undersized forward.

career high 16 points.

career 82 game average 18 points

Is not a centre (so no faceoff skills)

turns 27 in march (so no upward trajectory due to age)

Is making over a million bucks as a 4th liner.

Has either been scratched or injured for the majority of the last few years (only has played 66 of 148 regular season games since the start of 19-20)

None of that screams anything close to a 2nd round pick

At the TDL, a late second or third is what he fetches. The PK ability and style of play makes that a no brainer given that multiple teams would have interest.

Why not trade him and THEN re-sign him?? If he goes elsewhere, so be it. That kind of flawed thinking has left us with this roster and a very thin farm system. The team really needs to start maximizing its assets.

Bottom six forwards can be above replacement level you know. If you think Motte is a replacement forward, then you clearly haven't watched enough Canucks hockey

Sorry, I was thinking TDL the whole time, he isnt there for his offensive abilities, just for defence, and any team at the tdl would be a late round pick so a 2nd is probably what he would get in that situaiton

If you are referring to Motte, then I would say that you might be underestimating the value of having the players signing rights to extend them before free agency if you want. Obviously UFA signing rights don't have very much trade value if any, but if you trade a player as a rental, it's not the wisest move to hope that you will be able to reclaim that player back in free agency when the reason that you were able to sell that player as a rental in the first place probably means that there is a sizeable market for that player

You take your chances obviously, but he doesn't make or break this team one way or the other.
