Still In a Rebuild

Created by: Christian17
Team: 2021-22 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 1, 2021
Published: Dec. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Ducks are playing really well right now, if they kept all of their expiring UFAs they'd likely be a wild card playoff team, however, they shouldn't be trying to make the playoffs despite their greatly improved play because their contention window does not warrant resigning most of the UFAs in Lindholm, Rakell & Manson. Because of this it's time to sell while they have good value.

After the selloff Anaheim's forward group should still be decent, however, their defensive core is decimated with 3 of their top 4 best defensemen gone. Fowler is still really good, and we'll see what Drysdale is without Lindholm, but after that, this selloff makes them a team that will be perfectly positioned for a top 10 draft selection along with two picks that will likely go somewhere in the high 20s.
Trades
1.
ANA
  1. Jones, Zachary
  2. Lamb, Brody [Reserve List]
  3. 2022 1st round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Lindholm, Hampus ($2,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Lindholm is a solid top 3 dman, that drives play and improves every dman he's played with. Rangers need a solid defenseman, because although their goalie has been getting them wins their play in their own zone has been baaaad.
2.
ANA
  1. 2022 1st round pick (MIN)
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Minnesota is legit and they should try and go all in this year because who knows what happens next year when Parise and Suter's contract really start to bite into their cap. Rakell is a top 6 winger on a stellar cap hit already.
MIN
  1. Rakell, Rickard ($1,894,222 retained)
3.
ANA
  1. Johnson, Erik
  2. Olausson, Oskar
  3. 2023 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Erik Johnson is bad and on a big bad contract for another year.
COL
  1. Shattenkirk, Kevin ($1,900,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Shattenkirk is on pace for 50+ points on the Ducks On his own he would be able to net a 1st, because of taking on Johnson's cap next year and also the pick once removed he should be able to get this.
4.
ANA
  1. DeBrusk, Jake
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (BOS)
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
DeBrusk is done in Boston, his qualifying offer would be +4M as an RFA. Manson is a solid top 4 D.
BOS
  1. Manson, Josh
Additional Details:
I don't think DeBrusk is that good, and I think Manson should net a low 1st somewhere, but I'd be willing to bet that DeBrusk will salvage some of his past hype somewhere else.
5.
ANA
  1. 2022 4th round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Deslauriers, Nicolas
Additional Details:
Marek was saying teams were offering a 1st for DLo, he's not worth that obviously, but GMs are stupid sometimes.

I doubt the Rangers do that. They probably can't afford resigning Lindholm because they have to resign Blais, Kakko (,Gauthier, Georgiev) and maybe Strome in 2022 and Lafrenière, Chytil and Miller in 2023.

I think the Wild will try to acquire a Center not a Winger at the TDL.

Shattenkirk alone wouldn't get a 1st. Avs probably decline.

Manson could get a 2nd and a 3rd, but I don't think the Bruins (or anyone) would add DeBrusk.

Edited Dec. 1, 2021 at 6:54 p.m.. Reason: added explanatory phrase
I think that it makes no sense for Anaheim to move Shattenkirk, who still has a year left on his contract after this season, if they're going to lose Lindholm and Manson; they'll need the veteran leadership he provides in their absence. Moreover, while I think that it makes sense to move on from Manson, and perhaps from Rakell, I also think that the Ducks will make a serious effort to re-sign Lindholm.

I agree with my esteemed colleague @TZ11 that if the Wild are buyers at any point this season, they'll be looking for a center, not a winger.

Like seriously are people doing drugs? On what planet do the Avs give up a top forward prospect AND a 1st td pick for a dman they don’t need? I’ve seen some bad trades on here but this is up there. The Avs literally laugh when the Ducks say Shattenkirk, then report you to the league for obvious substance abuse problems. Awful doesn’t even begin todescribe it. I mean ffs Shattenkirk gets 3rd pairing ice time and zero PP on a team like the Avs. This is epically bad. B. A. D. Bad.

Avs don’t decline they freaking laugh. On what planet does a team give up another dman a 1st and a top forward prospect for a guy that will be on the 3rd pairing and not get a minute of PP time? This is epically bad, there is zero reason for the Avs to trade for a defenseman, much less give up something that would net a top 6 forward. Awful.

Minnesota doesn't need wingers, and they sure as heck aren't spending a 1st round pick or 2nd round pick for a winger

Erik Johnson isnt not bad, he is better than Shattenkirk. and his contract is fine, it doesnt hurt the avs.

If you are going to propose a trade, you should know about the players first

There is absolutely no way in hell that anyone has offered a 1st for Deslauriers or else he’d have been traded by now. No way the ducks get more than maybe a 6th. The pens don’t have a dumb GM anymore that’s willing to overpay to get players they want. If that was the case they’d have done it by now.

I get that Boston's hands may be tied with DeBrusk now that him wanting out is public, but Manson is the 3rd best RHD on the Bruins right now. If the return for DeBrusk is an NHLer, it will most likely be a LHD, Center, or MAYBE a replacement LW

Glad to see so many really measured comments on this tears of joy

Chiarot was being reported to be offered a 1st round pick. You're all wrong about Lindholm, Shattenkirk, and Manson's value. I'll cede that COL trade is a bit of reach, but it's for the cap feasibility and the addition of Shattenkirk retained that made it not outlandish. COL is going to be in a cap bind next year, maybe sub in Behrens instead. Johnson has been COL's worst or second worst xGF% and CF% dman forever.

And Rakell is a stud who's well worth what's offered here.

And look up Jeff Marek's comment about DLo for a first. The only reason the deal didn't get done was because BM was a big baby when the trade got leaked and canceled it.
