The only trade on Capfriendly you can do is retain half of Price salary and sending 1st round pick WITH Price vs AHLers

Yeah I guess you could do that with Canada’s starting tender the olympics but I doubt it. See everyone on the hockey world knows prices value it was on full display last playoffs. He was near super human. It was called the greatest display of goaltending ever my most I. The hockey world not hockey fans people that are in the business of hockey. I don’t think Washington would lose a game in the playoffs with price I believe they would go straight 16-0.

As soon as the nhl players stop picking him as the best goaltender. The nhl players vote him the best every year the opinions of fans that don’t have a g clue other then being a fan mean nothing like your opinion it means nothing and doesn’t change his value in the nhl

Seattle could've had him for free, they took an AHL dman instead. Turns out you're the one with no clue or are you gonna say Ron Francis's opinion doesn't matter either?

Not a bad deal two or three Stanley cups for your franchise at the mere cost of
A UFA , injury prone winger whose career has been pretty much derailed and a back up goalie and a first that’s so late should be called a second. Yeah not too much to think about here on this desk it’s pretty much a no brainer. Oh and it doesn’t hurt for gorton to squash his former teams playoff hopes lol

Caps obviously pass. Severe overpay on them. Wouldn't even do a 1st for Price unless he was half eaten.

Wow do t know why I need to explain but again you don’t understand the business now here we go was Seattle going to be a cup contender for the next four years
The answer to that my clever friend is a resounding no.

But Washington would be the number one co tender for the next four years when ovi s co tract expires

You see Seattle is building from the ground up they are in planning a total team from the ground up you do t take carry price at 34 to build your team around but if you are a contender who could basically shut the door my adding him without hurting your team and actually get him for a bag of spare parts then my friend now you understand the business of hockey. You need to learn to keep feelings and opinions separate and make your decisions on the objectively with focus on the prize

Even if you disagree with Price's value, using Seattle's drafting decisions as part of the argument doesn't help. They made quite a few bungles there.

I think you are missing my point. Every fans outside Habs fans think Carey Price have negative value. So you can go all day on CapFriendly AGM explaining why a late 1st is worth a couple Stanley Cups, they will still say no he is overpaid at is age, he has negative value …

Easy no from Caps. They wouldn’t bring in another goalie with serveral years left on a bad contract when they need to get their young goalies going. And they certainly wouldn’t pay that much for one.

There's a distinction between negative value and positive value but with a bad contract. A bad contract can be managed if the player's performance warrants it.
Retention and including bad contracts can reduce Price's cap hit significantly. Then he becomes a goaltender capable of backstopping a team to a cup. That's easily worth $5-8M and a couple of assets.
