Created by: Brad_Treliving
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 1, 2021
Published: Dec. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Apparently there is a player the Leafs are going to target, but isn't available yet

My guess is either Forsberg, if he is willing to sign an extension, or Timo Meier

I don't expect Timo to be available, but it's just an idea. My closest guess would have to be Forsberg

Toronto definitely cant come remotely close to affording either past this year.

    The player is probably Rakell

It was on the Real Kyper and Bourne Podcast at around the 15:40 mark I think

Sharks start with two 1sts and Robertson. We’re finally getting what we drafted Meier for and it would take a kings ransom to get him.

Not a fan of the Leafs taking on rentals this season. They wasted it last year.

rakell makes the most sense imo, maybe klingberg to pair with muzzin instead of holl/dermott but i think that'd be too high a price for the leafs to ultimately do. ducks are good right now so they won't move rakell and dallas is also crawling back into it but if either falls out they could move them

I really doubt they are big game hunting.

They are on a roll right now, so no reason not to let Mikheyev have 15/20 games to see if he can find his hands again.

IMO the biggest hole atm is top 4 rhd.

We know Holl can adequately fill the role, but an upgrade there turns the Leafs into a legit contender.

Trade deadline is far away and who knows if this play will continue but at this point idk if we even need to add anyone big up front. Perhaps just a depth C.

At the end of the day, why the **** have the big 4 making $40M if the biggest need on the team is another star forward?

Bunting and Kerfoot are both on pace for 45+ pt seasons. Why sell the future for a 60/70 pt forward?
That the Leafs won't be able to afford next year.

An upgrade on Holl, can either play with Muzzin and make the shutdown pair stronger, or play with Rielly, and let Muzzin play with Brodie.

Aww, this is the same b***s*** gag he pulled last year -- remember? "A US player for a non-playoff team . . . "

Sharks don’t even consider this. Retaining $3 mil and trading their best player this year for this isn’t going to happen

The way he has been playing this year that would be a steal for Toronto

I think the guy they will go get is Mark Girodano as what the leafs need rn is not another top 6 wing, its Muzzin insurance thats mostly it.

Actually Bunting is on pace for 58 after tonight Kerfoot 48. Not bad

Rakell, Giordano, Paul, McCann (got a feeling you give Seattle a stupidly good package they will send him back), Jarnkrok, etc.

For me Gio is the logical choice. Every time Muzzin goes down during the playoffs were ****ed. Nobody on the team can come in and replace him. Dermott tries but it never works.

    Imagine come the playoffs

    Rielly-Dermott
    Muzzin-Brodie
    Giordano-Holl

And I know I know Sandin, during last playoffs he got a bit man handled and honestly dont want to see a repeat. Let him be the #7 and when Muzzin goes down he can be the third guy with Holl

Going and listening to this, you quoted him completely out of context. The full quote:

'I wouldn't be surprised if their decision is to wait a little bit unless somebody comes up who they absolutely have to have. I wonder if the guy that Toronto is targeting or the player they want may not be available yet.'

The context of the segment isn't that they are after a specific guy but that they are waiting to see what becomes available.

Offence isn't something the Leafs need. Why give up good assets for a player they don't need?

The Forsberg part was my personal thought. The first line is what Elliotte Friedman said. I should have been a bit more clear
