Post TDL with new coach and GM

Created by: wardbell92
Team: 2021-22 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 2, 2021
Published: Dec. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Let someone take over behind the bench (looking at you Troy Mann) that will help these young guys develop over the last chunk of the season. This means giving the young guys some leashe to make mistakes without getting stapled to the bench for old slow guys. Sokolov comes up if there is an injury to the top 6 but otherwise stays in the minors to get top minutes. Guys like Sanford, Holden and Forsberg can go to any team for roughly that price. Just thought I would try and pair them to teams that might need them. If Sanderson doesnt come over after his season, don't do the Mete trade.

Isles will pass, Bellows should be playing in their lineup and have some young LD better than Mete.

Tierney is having a really poor season so far, just 2 even strength points in 20 games, 44% faceoffs, 4-11 goals at 5v5. Unless he turns it around fairly quickly he's not going to have this much value at the deadline.

I think these are all fairly reasonable moves. The only one I don't see working is the NYI trade.

I know he is struggling from a pure statistical point of view but playing on a horrible team will do that. Watching most Sens games, Tierney never seems to be the problem on the ice which says alot about his play. A guy who I think is a good bottom 6 player will always get a 3rd rounder at the TDL. With half retained I think he has value (especially since he is now getting some reps on the left side)

1. For Nick Paul with salary retention, I would want something more special than a late second round pick that can't be used until 2024.

2. Trade for Tierney is about right.

3. Trade for Sanford is about right.

4. If Pierre Dorion can get a 4th round pick for Anton Forsberg, he should be a circus magician that pulls rabbits out of a hat.

5. I'd be surprised if any team would offer anything for Victor Mete.

6. Trade for Holden is about right.

7. Only 1 more team is allowed by the NHL to retain on Kessel's contract because Toronto still has a piece of it.

You're allowing 2 more.

I figured with their injuries, they could use some depth. He could also easily run your 2nd PP unit and add some offence to your backend. If this trade doesn't work, I think a Mete trade for a "bust" type forward would make a lot of sense from the Sens to finish out the year.

It makes sense for the Sens but not the Isles.

Isles would rather play Salo and let him develop as there is good upside potential with him.

Mete would probably get waived by Lou to keep Greene and Chara.
