Interesting thought, but the if the Flyers were looking to rebuild they wouldn't have made that god awful Risto trade with Buffalo

No interest from NSH there -- would rather just keep Benning + 2nd.

As far as the DET trade though:
Edvinsson - Seider
Provorov - Hronek

that would be a pretty nasty top 4 in about 2 years

That was when we thought that would fix the issue. It has not. This team is a mess.

Could be any team really but NSH isn't the strongest at RD.

Let me rephrase: they SHOULDNT have made that trade, not they WOULDNT have. My bad. Not sure who signed off on that trade

100%. That was an absolutely atrocious deal. Giving up a 1st let alone more on top was laughable.

Lots of picks and some fair value IMO - thought I doubt Detroit gives those picks up.

Don't forget to flip Yandle/Brassard/Ellis too

Giroux would be one hell of a rental pick-up. Oilers biggest issue is still defense but adding Giroux up front definitely wouldn't hurt.

Adding Risto is supposed to improve NSH's RD? sarcasm

NSH doesn't really have RD issues right now. Carrier is an underrated young top four guy, Fabbro has finally started living up to some of his potential, and Benning is adequate as a bottom pairing guy. Once NSH figures out what they're doing with Myers, they'll have him to add to that as well. It might seem like the Preds aren't strong on that side, when they have Josi and Ekholm on the left, but there isn't a ton of concern with what the Preds currently have on the roster there.

I don't think anyone would want Yandle or Brassard and Ellis ya we could trade him but probably not until the offseason as his cap hit is substantial and not many contenders have space.

Haha, if the Habs were about 20 points higher in the standings I'd take Yandle in a heart beat

Would it work to add Johansson, Wallinder, or Buium to the Provorov trade so there isn’t so much draft stock lost? Maybe one of those three and a combination of picks like two 2nds or one 1st and a 5th.

NJD would much rather have Ellis than JvR
(or anyone)

Also, I think you are underselling Couturier here.
So many good teams with you assets looking for top-6 centers right now (MTL, MIN, COL...)

You have to remember that his cap hit goes up to $7.75 next year. I would rather low ball my players so that I don't get idiots whining and crying about it.

I remember the contract. I just think there is a pretty strong market for elite two-centers.

Take a look at MIN, MTL or COL prospect pools.

MIN: Boldy or Rossi, plus Lambos or O'Rourke...
MTL: Dvorak, plus Poehling, Norlinder, or Harris plus (Ok, this one not as interesting)
COL: Newhook plus Barron.

I really don't hate that Detroit deal, next year's first would be an interesting one. I probably would want to reconfigure it a bit. We have alot of good LD prospects that I would rather switch out for the picks. Thinking maybe the 2023 1st + good LD prospect + mid to late pick.
Our LD prospects are Viro, Sebrango, Buium, McIsaac, Johansson and Wallinder. So far all are excelling and looking to be NHL guys.

Hm. Some Devils fans probably do that considering Smith has been hurt and has started off the year poorly (probably the best time to buy Smith).

I was going to say Reilly Walsh, a young forward like Nolan Foote and a pick. If they develop as hoped, Walsh would replace some of Ellis’s offense from RD and Foote could fill in some of JvRs role.

It won't happen but it would instantly make Detroit more appealing to UFAs and maybe even get Hertl to sign in Detroit. Yes a 2023 1st and 2 2022 2nds is a lot but it could be worth it.

Top 4
Edvinsson - Seider
Provorov - Hronek

Top 6
Bertuzzi - Larkin - Raymond
Vrána - Hertl - Zadina
