I can’t see it happening, for multiple reasons.
1. Zaitsev is a RHD. That’s the strong side for the Isles, and while they could move one to the left, it’s not an optimal situation.
2. Bailey is better than Zaitsev right now, and he’ll likely be better than Zaitsev for the rest of his contract length.
3. IMO I could see this turning into another Ladd/Hickey situation, with a player that’s on the fringe enough for Lou to waive him and keep him buried for the rest of his NHL career. I doubt that anybody would want that dead cap until 2024, especially on a team that’s trying to contend.
