Leafs Have Only 2 Major Weaknesses

Created by: Agent_Of_R9
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 2, 2021
Published: Dec. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't think it's unreasonable to say the Leafs are the best performing team in the league right now, at least in terms of play driving. They are still the weakest psychological team in the league unless they prove it during the playoffs, but in terms of roster weakness, I see only 2 players.
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Strome, Dylan ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
*I feel the Leafs can work with Strome on his adaptability. Even with his shortcomings, he is still very good on the cycle and positioning himself to get good shots off as well as make plays in tight. Acquiring him will give TOR a 3B scoring line.
CHI
  1. Malgin, Denis [Reserve List]
  2. Ritchie, Nick
Additional Details:
*Ritchie is an excellent player, he forechecks well, is adept defensively and can create chances on the powerplay or when his teammates generate space for him. However, due to TOR's LW depth, he is an expensive 4th line option.
2.
ARI
  1. Holl, Justin
Additional Details:
*I really don't want to trade Holl cuz I know he's proven himself in a top 4 role in the past, but he's really not been good this season and that's not something a cap-strapped team can afford.
3.
TOR
  1. Braun, Justin ($900,000 retained)
PHI
*Braun is a proven top 4 matchup defender
    4.
    SEA
*Waiver Pickup - never hurts to have more defensive depth

You will Receive Revolt in CHI if this deal occurred. Ritchie is a cap dump for TOR. He does hold a role but there needs to be something coming back and if Ritchie is involved, we want a 1st. Strome is worth a 2nd on his own then add the retention.

So, you think it's good to claim waiver pickup from a bottom five team, and trade a top 4 Dman?
Why would the Hawks trade for an ineffective Ritchie and a never to be NHLer?
You've been trolling more than usual.

not having 3rd liners and defenders who are having terrible seasons are their weakness?

They were the best performing team in the league at this time last season too.

I’d be willing to give up a 2nd for Strome but I don’t think he will cost that. Ritchie would fit perfectly into the type of bottom 6 forward the Hawks would want.

The add between Crouse and Holl is rather noteworthy.

and everyone said it was meaningless because they didnt do it against "good teams". So it's meaningless for another reason now, right?

Like I said, I’d like to keep Holl but he has been terrible this season. If the Leafs want to go deep in the playoffs they are going to need better than this.

braun is having a flat out awful season. He was "proven" when he was younger, but has been a negative defensive player relative to who he plays with for years. Dude is an absolute drain on defensive partners

I haven’t watched much PHI but he has the second lowest xGA/60 amongst their defencemen this season. There really aren’t a lot of options given TOR’s cap situation, maybe Pysyk of BUF.

The Leafs don’t want or need Strome. He’s been terrible the last two seasons. With Mikeyev coming back I’d rather have him in the lineup over Strome. Their team is fine. They can sit Ritchie and move him in the off-season with a prospect for a low draft pick. As for Holl, Dermott, Sandin, and Liljegren are an effective 4,5, and 6 d man if he struggles. It comes down to finances in the off-season that’s the issue for the Leafs, and a log jam of forwards.

We wouldn't pay for Ritchie and a 4th line player. Strome can play on the 2nd line and has again today. Will he move? yes its probably the most likely scenario but It will be for a better return than currently on offer here by TOR.

No he hasn't been terrible. Think you see the flaws in the Leafs who see a lot, but think all other players have no imperfections. But if Holl is as bad as you say, why does Arizona make the trade for him. For some reason you think top 4 players and bottom end players from non playoff teams are so much better than the Leafs, who are near the top in GAA, and PK, and play hard 20 minutes a night

The Leafs would be lucky to get a 5th rounder for Ritchie.

Strome isn’t bad, he’s just lazy. That’s why he is seeing a decrease in player usage and production. He’s still very good in the offensive zone. Will make our fourth line a much bigger scoring threat. 0357d7ff_60f9_4b32_b630_97277e6f3080.png

No team has had any interest giving the Hawks a 2nd for Strome, why will it happen in the future? He didn’t score any points again tonight, he’ll be demoted again soon.

The majority of Holl’s shifts, he is getting trapped in his own end because he can’t move the puck out, this can be reflected in the stats. He can’t keep up with or anticipate opposing forwards’ skating movements and is always chasing the play, can’t stop the cycle. He struggles to box out opposing forwards in front of the net. He is basically like Jack Johnson in his later years.

Hawks not shopping him. If we wanted, could swap him with DeBrusk in BOS. Probably could field a package to NYR for Kravtsov also. Didn't get any points but should have if Dach shot the puck after he gave it to him on a plate.

If he can get regular minutes with The Cat he will be fine. Tbf though our lines have changed so much nobody has had a chance to get any chemistry going.
