I can't see the Jets trading DeMelo for Hamonic. Hamonic is a downgrade for the Jets and is paid the same as DeMelo. The 3rd round sweetener isn't appealing for a team that believes it can win now.

I have to wonder why Dallas is the one adding the pick, considering they're bringing better players too in the exchange.

Radulov > Pearson, due to the level difference

Hakanpää > Myers, due to Hakanpää's much better contract

Glendening = Highmore, both of them are just 4th liners basically

Also if that's what VAN wants for Miller, think Dallas would easily outbid that offer. Moore is a cap dump, we could replace him with Sekera. Wagner and Lazar can be replaced with Comeau and Gardner, and those picks are most likely going to be higher coming from Dallas compared to Boston.

Caps aren't getting rid of Schultz for so little return. Poolman has a horrid contract, as does Kempny's contract. But Schultz has much more value than Dickinson, and Washington definitely wouldn't be throwing in an extra draft pick.

Poolman's not a 7th/8th defenseman, he's good enough to be a 3rd pairing guy, his contract can be stomached. Schultz hasn't been very good for Washington lately, and you can't tell me otherwise when he's placed on the 3rd pair in depth charts. Dickinson is still a good bottom six forward, he's more valuable than Schultz

That's fair

Radulov is NOT better than Pearson right now, his play has completely dropped off while Pearson is still an effective 3rd line grinder

Rads is being misused and has suffered from injuries. I'd rather have him over Pearson, he has much more top6 scorer potential. And even he has declined, he has only one year left.

It's just that if I'm Dallas, maybe I consider unloading that contract

There's no need since it's only one year left and he's not exactly a hindrance.

Unless they make the playoffs, that's the only scenario in which I'd consider the argument

I figured the Pens might be interested in another scoring winger with Bryan Rust becoming a pending UFA. Kapanen is good, but still looks more like a middle-six winger than a franchise winger. McGinn's a good defensive forward, but at that cap hit, I do think he's expendable for the right price

A "3rd pairing guy" on a team that cycles 3 lines quite frequently, also is on the 2nd power play line. I'll take a player that played well up until recently, when he was Injured over an at best fringe 3rd/4th liner and a contract that would just put the Caps in a similar situation with Kempny's but with more years on it.

Justin Schultz hasn't put up many points this season, so it doesn't look like he is contributing much to the Caps second unit power play. I think the Caps would be comfortable just stapling Poolman to the 3rd pair because he actually thrives in a 3rd pairing role, but struggles noticeably given too much responsibility. Not to mention of course Nick Jensen is having a suprisingly good year this year, so that helps

Maybe. Schultz has been good despite not putting up too many points, and has looked stable with TVR, though having Poolman could allow Washington to allow TVR more situations on his natural side. However the Capitals would be without a true PP quarterback on the second unit, with Orlov and Jensen both not true fits for the role in my opinion. Poolman being in DC for 3 more years would also be a big problem as not having 2.5 in space every year when MCM, Fehervary, and more eventually need contracts.

Fair point, but I would say Washington didn't do themselves any favors by tying their hands with long-term contracts for Backstrom and Oshie which I was always skeptical of. Ovi and Kuzy will be fine, but Backy and Oshie look like they could get pretty ugly sooner rather than later. The fact that Mantha hasn't lived up to expectations doesn't help either, man McLellan got fleeced by the Yzerman. At least Kempny is coming off the books
