I’ll admit I haven’t really seen much of DeSmith but obviously he’s more established than Skinner. The thing is Skinner has a good chance to be our starter of the future. It’s way too early to tell though. I’m not just overreacting to a few games, but I think I’d rather hang on to our guy. Like gas DeSmith showed he had a chance to be a top 15 starter on this league? I’m seriously asking because I don’t know

At one point DeSmith was arguably one of the top five best backups in the league, maybe even the best backup. He's taken a step backwards and that's the goalie game. Goalies are a rollercoaster ride for the most part and that's even more true with backups. That said the Pens can definitely use an upgrade at backup, but for this season only and not at this price, nor does Skinner make sense for this moment in time. Right now the Pens need a goalie who doesn't need to develop.

EDIT: I think Craig Anderson is the type of target you can see the Pens going after and will not cost them a 3rd.
