Islanders 22-23

Created by: ChrisNapoleon
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 3, 2021
Published: Dec. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Reasons for Trades:

- The Batherson-Bailey Trade is to get some veteran presence onto Ottawa, which I believe they need. Bailey is the Alternative Captain on the Islanders & would be in a good leadership verteran role on the team. However, he has been apart of the Islanders for the past 14 years, and it would be a major blow to the franchise if he left. However, Batherson for the Islanders would help us with keeping the team young, as well as create some more offense. Draft Picks are to equalize the deal.

- Varlamov would be good for Dallas, as they need a goaltender & Varlamov has been one of the best goaltenders in the league the past 3-4 years. With that, the Islanders have more cap space, and with that, we should have enough to:
A. sign Brayden Holtby (2x2.5Mill)
B. Enough cap space to re-sign Barzal & Wahlstrom the following season without going over the cap

- Islanders-Detroit trade is based on the face that Yzerman allows for Bertuzzi to play, while being unvaccinated, so I believe that would be the same if Bode Wilde joined the team.

UFA Signings:
- Nick Cousins (Fills in that extra Left Wing spot, as well as give another year of training in the AHL for Anatolii Golyshev)
- Brayden Holtby (Gives an experienced veteran presence for Sorokin)
- Jordan Gross (Depth)

You don't want another Top 5 Pick for 2022?

They’re not going to stay bad all year. Plus Batherson is a sure thing . Most of the draft picks this year aren’t

Perhaps.

Islanders are on a 9 game losing streak and with their 1st round pick, we would have two shots at Shane Wright instead of just one.

So, we'll see if they can turn things around.

Although I never understand why so many on this site give out 1st round picks like they're halloween candy.

Ok give up a top 8 pick that seems smart, has everyone lost their minds on valuing draft picks

If the Isles pick stays where it currently is? Not trading it for Batherson. Put lottery protections on it and maybe. Also, I'd rather hold Wilde than just give him away. Maybe he gets the vaccine. Maybe the NHL no longer mandates it. He's a good player.

Batherson is a stud, his impact would def move u out of the top 10 and push u towards a playoff spot
