Just a thought - Habs fans will hate it

Description
This is really just throwing some poop at the wall. I don't know what the Habs agendas are right now. Retool? Rebuild on the fly? That said, since I don't know what they're trying to accomplish, take that into consideration when viewing my idea.

This is also based on some not well-sourced rumors that the Habs are open to moving Gallagher.

Also, I think Rust is a better player than Gallagher and will likely make about the same, but this is if Rust plans on wanting to move on regardless.

I think on some levels it makes sense for both teams. Pens need a bit of a dynamic shift and the Habs are obviously to some degree looking for the same. I hate to see Rust go, but it's hard to tell how that's going to shake out.

yeah, i mean if the habs wanna rebuild it's not the pieces they'd want but the value is there.

Yeah. I know Gorton spoke about the plans, but I didn't have a chance to read it. Are they trying to retool or rebuild right now?

no idea, they'll probably wait until the new year at least to make that call. if things dont improve significantly there's potentially a huge shift to full rebuild

Honestly, not bad, Matheson's deal isn't great but Kappy, Rust and Hallander are nice assets, Armia is overpaid, Chiarot is gone, we just don't know where and Gally is a solid top 6 player though he's missing Danault and Tatar, he's still a hard worker and leader though there are injury concerns too

Just a note, Gallagher's linemates generally perform better with him as opposed to without. He doesn't need Danault or Tatar so much as they needed him.

These lines are solid but the armia contract is tuff although it’s better than mathesons

This is great for the Habs. I don’t know how good Gally’s contract is for Pittsburgh though.

Armia fits the mold of a type of player Hextall and Burke want. His production is modest, but for a player who can bring that element it's good. Pens will probably let Chiarot walk, so all in all the Pens will have more financial freedom to properly fill out the lineup.

When you look at what Rust is going to get, it's probably similar and factor in the raise Kapanen will get it's probably a wiser course of action for the Pens.

I think Armia's contract is fine. Is he overpaid? A little, but not grossly overpaid and yes, better than Matheson's contract as a fit for the Pens with their logjam at LHD. If the Pens didn't have Pettersson I'd be fine with Matheson staying.
