TDLs Part 1

Description
Well, we’re at that point in the season where we have an accurate idea of who’s a playoff team and who’s not. I thought I’d share what I would do for each team at the trade deadline if I was GM. I’ll start with Anaheim since they’re first in alphabetical order so be patient Jets fans, I’ll get to you eventually. We all thought Anaheim was going to be near the bottom of the league, but they’ve been quite a surprise so far, and it looks like the rebuild may be done sooner than we thought. I’ll do sort of a mix of buying and selling. If they make the playoffs, they’ll have a solid built team that can try to go on a run, and if they don’t make it, they won’t completely mess up their future. Feel free to give feedback in the comments and let me know if you would do anything differently.
Trades
1.
ANA
  1. 2022 1st round pick (TOR)
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. Manson, Josh ($2,050,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Anyone in need of a right defenseman. I’m keeping Lindholm and Rakell for a possible playoff run, but I’ll give away Manson for some picks. He can be worth a first especially if the ducks retain.
2.
ANA
  1. Miller, Colin
Additional Details:
A right defenseman to take Manson’s place for the playoffs. I think he would be a good fit.
BUF
  1. Larsson, Jacob
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Conditional pick: if the ducks miss the playoffs this year, the pick will become a 2023 2nd.
3.
ANA
  1. 2022 6th round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Deslauriers, Nicolas
Additional Details:
Anyone in need of a bottom 6 forward for a low draft pick.
4.
MIN
  1. Comtois, Maxime
  2. 2022 5th round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
I’m getting the sense that Fiala might be on the outs from Minnesota due to contract negotiations. And Comtois is struggling with the ducks this season, so this can be a possible trade. The ducks have the cap space to get a deal with Fiala next year, and Comtois can get a chance to bounce back with a high scoring team. Assuming Comtois is healthy at TDL.

The problem is that Minnesota has no urgency to trade Fiala. That is why we will only trade him if the package includes a top prospect or a top6 center.

What would you throw in the package? I would have thought Fiala and Comtois would have close to the same value.

Minnesota isn't doing this! Fiala has way more value! They don't need to trade him either. Cap isn't an issue to keeping Fiala

Wasn’t targeting them specifically. I just went with them since they might need an RHD if they get rid of Holl.

The problem with Comtois is that
A. He is a winger, which we have no need of. If we had, we would just keep Fiala.
B. He has had one good year and is more of an unproven player than Fiala.

For Fiala, we would want a top6 C, a top prospect or a high 1st round pick.

Like the offseason, I don't think the Ducks do much at the TDL. We are over-performing. Now is not the time to sell, nor is it the time to "go all-in". Maybe Des gets moved again (although I'd prefer holding onto him). I doubt Manson is moved. Maybe Rakell gets moved if the right deal comes in, but I think the chances are slim.

Why are we selling an RFA player that will fit perfectly in our rebuild and keeping Lindholm, a soon to be UFA? Do we resign him?

It doesn't matter if we get to the playoffs we are still in the rebuild. Too many UFAs this year. Losing Lindholm would suck. Losing him for nothing would bring me pain.

Because we have every intention of signing him maybe? You don't have to trade away every pending UFA, especially if you plan on re-signing them.

Intention would be a pretty weak reason to get hold off on trading him when that intention has probably been clear since the club could extend him. That said, what team/gm wouldnt have the intention on resigning a Lindholm? Waiting till the offseason to resign is awfully risky and would leave us with in a bit of dilemma if it didn't come to fruition like it has many other times in the NHL. We shall see tho. I hope he resigns. Id offer him an 8.5X8. That might not even do it if you consider state taxes and the free agent market. Nonetheless, I do agree with your point here I just dont think its applicable to Hampus Lindholm.

Yes, it is risky, but Lindholm hasn't expressed a desire to leave or even stated he'll test the market. If that is his plan, why not just say it is? It won't de-value any contract he'd get (open market and all) and would allow teams to prepare their finances to make a serious bid for him. He'd certainly be a prime target.

I imagine he is probably just being told to wait on re-signing with ANA. ANA (at least when GMBM was at the reigns) has traditionally driven a hard bargain when it comes to re-signs. His agent will have more leverage to get a better deal if Lindholm is literally days away from being a UFA, even if Lindholm has no intention of leaving.
