Tougher To Play Against

Created by: Bbpagewolf
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 4, 2021
Published: Dec. 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know there’s a lot of assumptions that Samuel Girard is gonna be traded but assuming he’s not, the Avalanche ask Erik Johnson to waive his clauses and he gets dumped to Arizona. After that, aside from trading Nicolas Aube-Kubel’s RFA rights, the Avalanche are one of the most active teams in the UFA market. They bring Nikita Zadorov back now that they have the room to do so as well as bring in Robert Bortuzzo to form potentially the most physically intimidating shutdown 3rd pairing in the league. Andre Burakovsky and Valeri Nichushkin are re-signed, but Nazem Kadri leaves due to wanting a big raise that the Avalanche won’t give him and with Alex Newhook on the rise, they can afford to move on from Kadri. Johan Larsson and Patrick Maroon are brought for physical and defensive depth on the 4th line, Sam Lafferty and Jordie Benn are brought in as extras, and Frank Vatrano is brought in for 3rd line scoring depth. Justus Annunen gets called up for the full time backup goaltending role as he is more than ready by this point and the Avalanche move on from Darcy Kuemper and take a risk with Jack Campbell seeing him as an upgrade and with Toronto being unable to give him a desirable contract. Campbell becomes the Avs’ biggest UFA signing as well.

Marc Staal was still a good player when the Rangers cap dumped him. It doesn’t matter how good a player is in this case. It’s all about the older age and the amount an older player is making at that age. No one will be willing to give the Avs something to get him and no one will be willing to help them out without a price. If they feel like they need to get rid of him due to the cap, especially with a ton of key UFAs coming up, they’re gonna need to include something and if Marc Staal is a close enough comparison, then a 2nd should be all it takes.

when a team doesnt have cap issues, they dont have to pay to get rid of them

Avs dont want to get rid of him either, hes an important piece to their locker room and leadership group.

Marc Staal is not a comparable

He’s not worth keeping if it means losing their entire 2nd line. Given the raise these guys are gonna ask for plus the other holes they’ll need to fill, all of a sudden the Avs’ cap space doesn’t look as good. Plus health is always a concern with him.

Oh I read what you said, but you clearly misunderstood what I said. Rather than explain it to you, read the contracts handed out above, try to math it out with Johnson still on the roster, and then get back to me.

over paying on a starting goalie and a 3rd pairing on Defense solves your issues, also wasting cap space on a 4C in Larsson, and Vatrano.

How bought understanding the avs org depth and the guys in their development systems that fit those roles instead of wasting on dumb UFA signings first
Then get back to me once you understand that Kaut, Maltsev, and Barron are filling roles of theirs

1st under no circumstances is EJ waiving to go to AZ. No way no how. They could force it and ask for his 10 team no trade list and AZ is on that list 100% along with the other bad teams that have cap space.

On all the signings. Weiss maybe gets a contract, Taylor Makar isn’t even a regular at UMass so that doesn’t happen, neither do Henry, McKewon, Middleton or Hunter.

And what’s the point of all the bottom 6 3rd pairing signings when guys like Kaut, Ranta, Bowers, Barron and Foudy are ready.

And with all of the signings you missed Helleson who could very well be in the line up next year.

he moves NAK for no reason, claims that avs need to move EJ bc of cap issues, then turn around and signs wose contracts for not even upgrades than NAK who would QO for less
