As one of the top two defensive teams in the NHL currently, I can't see Calgary being interested in either of those players, especially for a first-round pick.

Lehkonen is one of the best defensive forwards in the league and contributes nicely offensively. Great guy on the pk. Definite upgrade on someone on your 3rd line like Lewis and could move into the top in case of injuries. Kulak is depth and any team making a cup run needs a lot of it. Reliable in his own zone and decent breakout passer. Another player that would fit perfectly with the Flames and a huge upgrade on that bottom pair.

Every single one the trades is way slanted towards Montreal and no where close to realistic

So to reiterate, you are asking Calgary to give up a 1st for redundant players? Lehkonen wouldn't even make Calgary's PK units.

Also calling Lewis a 3rd liner when he has literally only played 1 game above the 4th line (the most recent game) is a pretty odd argument to use as justification. As for Kulak, Flames have ridiculous defensive depth for the playoffs already, so unless it's a bonafide top 4 RD (in the case that Tanev gets injured long term) there is zero interest in adding defensemen. Kulak would be behind Stone, Valimaki, and probably Mackey too.

You paid absolutely no attention to my comment, which was to point out that Calgary doesn't need two primarily defensive guys who can chip in on the offense. As you accurately state, Lehkonen is one of the best defensive forwards in the league and Kulak is a depth defender who is primarily known for being reliable in his own zone and making decent breakout passes. Neither is someone one of the two best defensive teams in the League needs.

And no one pays a first for depth players - a 2nd + a 3rd doesn’t make a 1st!
