Varlamov for a 3rd? There's potential he gets a first from a contender. He nets at least a 2nd.

How do you ask for a 1st and prospect for Connor brown then turn around and give San Jose that offer for labanc

I'm willing to up the pick a bit.

However, I think the days of him getting a first are gone. Last offseason was the chance for that.

I also think most teams will be after retention on him, something IMO the Isles can't afford. Varly is a cap move. They'd rather the 5m in space than a few spots higher in the draft.

Lastly, this has been a crummy start to the year and he's lost his starter role. As he gets older and performance gets worse, I can't imagine the return improves.

Similar is why I have Florida sending the full cap of Hornqvist for so low. I think OTT is missing a veteran leader like him.

That assessment is mostly from other threads I've seen here. Sharks fans seem surprisingly low on Labanc. Not really sure why. Maybe its just the contract, to where I could understand the dislike of White going back. This trade only makes a measure of sense if Hertl walks.

TOR declines. Knies and Miky are better suited than Brown and Mete. Brown would be a 3rd liner on this roster atm, something Miky can already do

I got some strange feeling if Murray gets bought out he is going to Toronto to be the backup and Mrazek will end up in Edmonton via trade.

And that could help Murray as maybe being the backup will help him more and he should come cheaper than 3.8mill

that’s a lot for a 33 year old rental goalie with a 3.68 GAA this year!

Connor Brown has scored over 40 once and is returning a first, Knies (2020 2nd rounder) and an nhler. Labanc has scored more than 40 twice and has 56 points in a season and is returning a 2nd and an nhler.

I guess I just don’t see how the value adds up. I guess I’m not as high on white, not sure. Both brown and labanc overall have similar ppg over their career with labanc being slightly higher. Just don’t really see how brown returns more.

Check Varly stats for the last 2 years. At the deadline, a playoff team is going to give more. 1st rounder is definitely in play for him at the deadline.

May just be a 3rd round pick, but Minnesota doesn't need a bottom line c. They already have good, younger ones playing

Getting really tired of the charlatan nonsense here of people trying to pretend 5 games of performance is a reasonable way to fully evaluate players

        Like seriously can you stop?

Waste of time for all of us here ffs

I'd just say that if Ottawa decide to buyout both they'd really have to make it worth it given their situation and shoot for the moon... this is a solid attempt

        But doesn't really get there

Puts too much $ on the books for their key window

Y'all should know in toronto that Brown is a heck of a lot more than just goals lol. Your analysis on the players is limited to exclusively points which isn't realistic at all. Brown is a discount Hyman - swiss army knife - do it all type player that coaches love. Labanc isn't that. Brown is the *type* of player all successful recent playoff teams lately have had (Compare with: Coleman, Goodrow, Josh Anderson, Alex Tuch) The return is also higher due to term retention being involved. You get him for 2 years. He fits the role player vibe of Coleman and Foligno. He costs a first.

I think without retention a 2nd is his cap. 3rd admittedly is low. But its a choice between return and retention. If you want the higher return, there's no question you have to retain as all the contenders are maxed out on cap. I think the retention causes more harm than good for you guys especially next year.

On a team that has had to complete a whole obstacle course every offseason to do literally anything with their cap? Toronto has to manipulate things to ice a competitive roster under the cap. Having a higher end 3rd liner and capable middle sixer at 1.8m is very solid. I think you're underestimating the value that these role players bring. I see you're a Wild fan, so Brown is to Ottawa what Foligno is to Minnesota. Minnesota isn't moving Foligno (probably at all) for any less than a first and an add.... not because of his point totals, but how versatile he is.

he’s 33 years old relegated to back up with an 886 S%
yes it’s 5 games and yes he has a solid history of well above average tending, even last year 2.08 GAA and 929 S% but there has to be a reason he only has 5 games this year, yes Sorokin is good, but he’s not that much better than val has been for a long time… i think he might be injured, or aging. but unless he starts turing things around i don’t see him getting as much as he would have last year. which would have been a 1st and a high level prospect.

He costs a first.

your logic is there but isn’t brown in the dog house in Ottawa? i thought he was on the block and they don’t want him! same can be said for Labanc though as the sharks coaching staff want D first game plan and Labanc is an offensive talent better suited to up tempo play.

if the leafs are going to give up those assets, they're going to get a better player than brown

2 years of brown at 1.8 is very compelling I just think that a 1st and especially knies who's looking like another Dubas steal (he got covid for start of draft year and dipped his pick spot) would be used elsewhere if any prospect was being traded would be Robby depending on if they have given up on him.
