Why Vancouver is fine if they just have patience

Created by: BCAPP
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 5, 2021
Published: Dec. 5, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In two years they have one bad contract left with term in OEL.

It's not that expensive to get rid of a one year contract for a guy like Myers. Maybe a second. Maybe they eat it. Poolman is no stud but it's a pretty meh issue having him on the third pair for 2.5 mil.

Look at this team. Cap is fine. Has a 1c (and a 2c they can choose to resign). Some good wings. A #1d and a starting g.

Can be an easy 1.5 year retool

I agree overall

Retool >>> rebuild for them

I'm a bit lower on the poolman situation as he's 3x league minimum not overly young either, but thanks especially to burying, not too terrible

They just really need a Moritz Seider type RD and it’s so hard to get him unless it’s top 10 in the draft

With the depth of the draft this year I wonder if someone might drop lundell style but heck at 5th overall right now maybe just nemec / jiricek

Whatever. He can be a third pairing dman overpaid by 1.5 mil for a couple years or waived and costing 1.3 mil or whatever for a couple years. It's not good, but it's meh

Everyone needs great players. But I'm just trying to say they have a pretty good young core which check marks most of the keys a team needs and their bad contracts are just a few years outside of one

The biggest thing is they need to actually take the step back. That means maximizing the assets we have namely Miller. They need to get a really good prospect and 1st for him. Maybe even think about moving Rathbone just because he does really have a pathway to excel. If we could package him or get a similar more defensive right shot dman for him. Id consider moving Boeser as well.

Then the team needs to draft well and round out the roster properly and create an identity. Are we fast, skilled, tough, big, right now we sadly are none of those things.

They have elite pieces and young pieces they just need to understand you can't build it all in 1 season. Be patient and hire a good hockey guy and somehow get the Aquilinis to stop meddling in hockey operations.

1 year of tanking to pick up Nemec or Jiricek really wouldn’t be a bad thing

Dont know the prospects this yr but Id agree we are done this yr. We should be maximizing assets and draft as high as we can. Hopefully with more than one 1st.

Those guys are the 2 best RDs in the draft this year. Nemec should go top 5 and Jiricek top 10. Both play in mens leagues in Europe

Crazy they are both eastern European Slovak and Czech. We haven't seen two high prospects from there in a long time. I hope they turn it around. Hockey was better when Slovaks and Czechs had deep talent pools.
