Avs TDL 3-Team Trade

Created by: akoeppel08
Team: 2021-22 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 6, 2021
Published: Dec. 6, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Giroux fills out the Avs' top 6, and will be a good 2C or 2W option in the future. Resigning him to a 4.5-5M AAV contract would also keep the door open for re-signing Burky or signing Forsberg (probably not Hertl tho) as a free agent.

Georgiev gives the Avs a healthy, serviceable backup for the rest of the season. And, I don't think the Avs should give Kuemper a big contract with his injury issues, so he could play in a 1A/1B situation with Annunen or a cheap-ish free agent after this year.

that is an awful trade for the avs Georgiev is awful this year and trading Ranta and a 1st is just reckless considering Giroux will never sign for that little.

Rangers want nothing to do with that package either,

So wait. The Rangers trade Georgiev, a 2nd, and a 4th, for the privilege of taking on 2 cap dumps and a goalie who hasn't played since March of 2020? The ****?

Georgiev haș been terrible. Honestly his numbers aren't much better than Jonas Johananson. No way Giroux is signing for that little.

Idk, your beat writers say otherwise: https://brotherlypuck.com/2021/08/12/predicting-claude-girouxs-next-contract/

I really like the idea of adding Giroux but I think Ristolainen and the rangers trade is just unnecessary. When running a 21 man roster and once everyone is taken off LTIR the Avs should have enough cap space by the TDL to add Giroux at 50% without moving anyone else

compher isn't a cap dump he's a decent middle six player on an average contract. risto at $2.7m seems fair too. franky played two conditioning games in the ahl and will likely be back very soon.

Idk what to tell you, Rangers say they need a middle-6 forward and a defenseman. Compher has been good this season and Risto would be good in a smaller role. I cld also frame the trade like "the avs are trading a forward on a 60-point pace (compher), a former 8th overall pick (Risto), and a goalie with a .923 career save percentage for a goalie with an .876 this year and two picks". Obv that's not a good representation of the trade but your take basically does the same thing dude.

It's better than trading your first for a rental forward, imo.

That article was from before the season started. He's BY FAR the best player on the team. Giroux leads the team in goals and has almost 10 more points than the next highest scorer. At this rate, 7 million on his next contract might still be a discount. Joe Pavelski's last contract is a fair comparable.

I'll give you that he's definitely the best player on the Flyers rn. And his corsi and points per game are a bit better. But not 7M AAV vs 4.5M AAV better. And 22 games this season isn't a huge sample size either. Pavelski *could* be a contract comparable but I think he was overpaid and he signed that contract before covid (and the flat cap). Tbh if Giroux wants 7M, he can probably get something close, but not on a cup-contending team. So ig I'm betting that he wants to win... who knows though

Isn’t that a fan page, the guy who wrote us is DanTheFylersFan, that’s like calling someone on here a beat writer when talking about contact values

Giroux/Risto/retention is worth more than that: a 1st a year away, a late 3rd and a prospect that has 0 pts in 12 NHL games. I like Ranta, but he and a 1st a yr away MIGHT get Giroux, but not with 4mil in retention and not with Risto thrown in (with retention).

Giroux as a UFA probably gets 7mil on the open market, and he might come as low as 5.5mil on a longer (4 years?) deal, but even as a deadline deal, Giroux is worth that. I cant see PHI taking that return for those two players and retention, they'd get far more individually.
