I think the JT one is fine, but getting the Habs to retain for an extra 2 years is a lot, especially for a quantity over quality trade. Can't see them taking that.

With Gio, I think Tarmo/2nd is probably reasonably close, but taking back Nemeth just throws it off.

Ok so let me get this straight, you want a consistent 20-30 goal scorer who is already on a sweet contract for 3 more years after this one (he could have easily been at 5-6 Mil per year) half retained and don't plan on giving up at LEAST 2 1st round picks. Yeah go find another one, Montreal passes.

For comparison, that's twice as much as what Buchnevich's got via trade.

Why does Montreal care if the Rangers can stay together beyond this year? If you want Montreal to retain 2 Mil on Toffoli for 3 years (who is already on a sweet deal), then be prepared to pay at least 2 1sts. Montreal would take either Laf straight up (because of the retension) or Schneider + a 1st as well.

Calm down. I don't want your middle six guy. I am saying there is no point for the Rangers to make these trades because it forces them into a position where they have to move players in the offseason to be cap compliant. This should be part of the analysis of moves like this.

IMO there isn't a player on your roster the Rangers want.

You calm down yourself, I was simply saying that the Rangers have to worry about their own cap cause quite frankly Montreal does not care about it. If the Habs are making this trade it is going to cost the Rags a LOOOOTTTT more than what was proposed. TBH I don't care what you think of the Habs lineup or their players by making a statement like the bolded one above you are just trolling and know very little about what the Rags would really want. There are several players on the Habs that all teams would want (including the Rags), players like Suzuki, Caufield, Romanov, Toffoli, Anderson, Gallagher, Price, Dvorak, Petry, Edmundson, Chiarot, Lehkonen, Armia, Hoffman, Drouin and Clague all have varying levels of worth and depending on team needs would be of interest to other teams including your precious Rags.

I replied to OP on my initial comment, so I have no idea why you commented about Montreal's opinion on my statement to begin with. The Leafs retained 1.2m on Kessel for 7 seasons and got 2 1sts. Keep dreaming that you will get that for a middle six forward.

This is CapFriendly my friend it is a public forum where anyone can comment on anyone else's posts as they feel. I was commenting on your post because you said the Rags can't keep the group together after this season like that should affect the value of the deal for Montreal. The Habs wouldn't and shouldn't care whether or not the Rags can keep their team together, that was my point. I also was responding on how ridiculous it is to expect to get a TOP 6 forward who has consistently over the course of his career scored 20+ goals a year at 2 mil for 3.5 years for just a bunch of garbage throw aways. Using the Leafs as an example is like comparing apples to oranges. 1. Kessel's cap hit for the Pen's was still 6.8 mil a year after the retention and the Leafs didn't JUST get a 1st they also got Harrington, Kahane, and a 3rd. 2. The Kessel trade did not take place in a flat cap world. The cap was increasing and cap space was not as big of a premium as it is now. 3. Now let's use your example shall we to see what Toronto could have got IF the situation was similar. Kessel is the better player than Toffoli so let's assume the Leafs were retaining half of his 8 mil salary like the situation above for Toffoli. The Leafs could have easily gotten at least 1 more 1st or a top prospect from the Pen's if Kessel was being traded at 4 Mil. Now take into account Toffoli signed at a discount of about 1.5-2 Mil and Kessel didn't so that would be like getting Kessel at 3 mil instead of 6.8. How many 1sts do you think the Pen's would have had to give up to get Kessel at 3 Mil? 2? 3? That isn't even in the flat cap world, let's take that into account, see how things are increasing? This is just ridiculous to say that Toffoli at 2 mil is not worth more than what Kessel was at 6.8 six years ago before covid.
