Damon Severson Trade Comps

Created by: NHLfan10506

Initial Creation Date: Dec. 7, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tried to come up with some possible trade comps for Damon Severson since there have been a lot of trades here for him. I tried to use only deals where there was term remaining. So no 1/2-year rentals (ie, Savard) or 1-year rentals (ie, Risto).

What other comps would make sense to you? Feedback appreciated.

I’d like to keep him but if he doesn’t want to extend/resign then he has to be traded soon

I'm a big Foote guy ,but I'd do this in the off season no cap space now. That would have to come with a million dollars in retention

If the pens were able to trade Zucker or Matheson, I could see them going after a Severson. Maybe not exactly those pieces but probably centered around POJ.

These are just comps (and loose matches to similar trades today). Intended to be wide range here. A ‘mark to market’ exercise, if you will.

            I think
            Hedman-Severson
            McDonagh-Cernak
            Sergachev-Bogosian
            Would be a scary d-corps

Um Muzzin was traded for 2 B prospects and a 1st

Knies be borderline A prospect rn and based on how hes playing I dont think they want to move him

So probs swap him out with SDA or Abruzzese and you probs got it.

That said we got to many RD rn and we would want a more shutdown guy to play with Muzzin.

It’s already a solid blue line. Could put

            Hedman — @nhlfan10506
            McDonagh-Cernak
            Sergachev-Bogosian

And they’d still win a lot

But I mean SCARY SCARY!!!!!!! With Vasileskiy between the pipes and that foward group could pull an early 80's Islanders

I think a 3-peat in today’s NHL would be equally as impressive as 4-in-a-row in 1980-83.

Hey it took Gretzky's oilers 2 series to finally beat those Islanders teams

That said we got to many RD rn and we would want a more shutdown guy to play with Muzzin.

Agree on the price (not Knies, it should have someone else) but I think Severson would work well with Muzzin. If it’s as you suggest, SDA instead of Knies the leafs should do it.

I don't think that would fly for NJD

The Muzzin trade is a good comp. The only issue there is that Muzzin was a better player at the time than Severson is now, and Knies is a better rated prospect than any of those guys were at the time. Though Durzi may shift that trade.

They turned out as lesser prospects, but they were probably as well-regarded then as Knies, Niemela are today.

Nah, they definitely were not. People rate these two as 1st Rd talent guys as of right now.

They were #3 and #6 on Leafs Nation list
They were #3 and #5 on Wheeler's Athletic list

It is easier with hindsight, but they were legit prospects at the time

Well, you can have your pick of any 2 prospects not named Robertson, Amirov, Knies or Neimela, but if you want one of them it’s probably only one of them you get (and then, you probably need retention).

Well, if I were GM, I would then just keep him or deal with other teams that are offering serious packages. Tampa (Foote, Joseph, 1st), Edmonton (Yamamoto, Skinner, or Barrie, Broberg, 1st), Vancouver (JT Miller), Winnipeg (Schmidt, Vesalainen), Pittsburgh, Boston ,etc etc Look around at what others are offering for him.

Not a chance he fetches the Edmonton or Vancouver package, probably not the tampa one either but it's Tampa so who knows (if that trade happened he's likely win the Conn Smythe lol), Boston also makes little sense as they need left d's. If that is the package from Winnipeg, the proposed Toronto one is far better, and Pittsburg does make sense as well, but they don't have a strong prospect pool at all. So that leaves either keeping him or taking the Toronto package.

Hall/Larsson deal is nowhere near a comp for Severson. They each had 4 full years of term left on their contract. Severson is a rental+1 and a UFA after that.
