Dickinson Chiarot and Lehkonen

Created by: SupremeBone
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 8, 2021
Published: Dec. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Likely doesn't fix the bottom-6 problem but adding Dickinson and Lehkonen, moving Kassian, and dropping Ryan outta the starting lineup should help the GA, at least. Shifting Foegele and Puljujarvi is to hopefully give Foegele a confidence boost and give Puljujarvi another shot at running a 3rd line. They'd swap throughout the season.
Trades
1.
EDM
  1. Chiarot, Ben ($1,750,000 retained)
  2. Lehkonen, Artturi
Additional Details:
Not comfortable with a 1st for Chiarot alone; need a piece to support the bottom-6 and Lehkonen does that.
MTL
  1. Lavoie, Raphael
  2. Turris, Kyle
  3. 2022 1st round pick (EDM)
  4. 2023 4th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Turris to make the cap fit; Lavoie because... Qeubecois? I break it down like this:

Chiarot for Turris + most of the value of the 1st
Lehkonen for Lavoie, the 4th, + the remaining value of the 1st

Is it within range?
2.
EDM
  1. Dickinson, Jason
Additional Details:
Dickinson adds nothing in the way of offense, but the Oilers need the bottom-6 to stop bleeding goals.
VAN
  1. Kassian, Zack
  2. Lagesson, William
Additional Details:
My impression from Nucks fans is that some seem to want Kassian's physicality back. Maybe a small asset going back to VAN for the difference in cap?

Lagesson is there because VAN looks like they lack a defensive LD. Not a definite NHLer but a chance at a cheap 3LD.

I think it's pretty much spot on. I don't think Chiarot itself lands a 1st but with the retention and the shortage of available defensemen who knows. If Lavoie as a prospect is valued as a low 2nd to mid 3rd then it's fair for Lehkonen.

Not comfortable giving up a first for chariot so let’s include one of our better prospects too and take back a guy that will just compete with benson for 4th line minutes? I’m not sure I can get on board with that deal Lavoie is just going too far with that one.
Im personally against moving kass. When on his game he’s a game changer yes it’s not as often as we would like but I’d much much rather have him on our team than a division rival I can see that biting us in the butt.

I would put it on the light side.

Turris is a negative value asset and a retained Chiarot is easily a 1st. So Chiarot for Turris a 1st and a 4th (the 4th is the retention cost)

Which leaves Lehkonen for Lavoie. RL at this point has struggled to adapt to pro hockey (13 points in 34 AHL games). You can probably get a better prospect elsewhere (especially as a winger RL doesnt really fit a need either). I would personally prefer the 38th overall pick he was used for than him personally.

not a bad trade, but I wonder if Gorton would try and pry dylan holloway out of edmonton considering he's played with caufield.

The issue with that is I personally don't see a player on montreal right now that can haul in holloway

i dont disagree. but considering he is a center, with a top 6 projection, I wonder if he would want out. theres no center space on the top 6 for the oilers lmao.

I mean he plays wing as well so its either have a chance as a 1c with a mediocre team somewhere else or playing on mcdavids wing for the next 10 years

I would break it down like this:
- Chiarot @ 50% Retained = 1st Round Pick
- Lehkonen @ 50% Retained = 2nd Round Pick (~Lavoie)

I know you didn't retain on Lehkonen but I think the habs would be willing... that leaves the Turris cap dump and the 4th which sounds about right, 4th might be a bit generous but it makes up for any doubt in the Lehkonen for Lavoie move so I'd say MTL would accept this deal for sure.

Edit:
Just wanted to say good job addressing team needs.

RE: Lavoie, he's struggling this year and is a rather mercurial player. A team acquiring him is banking on a rather boom-bust guy and, as such, he doesn't hold even the value of his pick slot.

As for Kassian, what games has he changed aside from the many times he's culpable on goals against (which, sure, is "changing games" tears of joy )? He's been the only constant in the bottom-6 since Tippett took over and his defensive lapses are too frequent to be worth the odd game where he "turns it on". It's time for us to move on from guys that don't give consistent defensive efforts.

Well, it's gotta be close if one says it's on the light side and one says it's about right! grin

i've liked dickinson, but I also think we need a physical presence and a 3LD. Maybe trading Pearson would work

meh I'd just bring up Rathbone and wait for a tough guy to hit waivers. Hindering yourself with Kassian's contract just because you want toughness isn't a good idea

Lagesson is more responsible defensively and that would allow Schenn to be more comfortable playing on his good side
